YA Horror / Thriller (13 year old boy)

I had planned to get him the Danny Weston books for Christmas, but he has just gone and borrowed them from the school library, so that idea is now out the window.

He says he's too old for Goosebumps series now . He's desperate to read Stephen King but I feel he could still be a bit too young ?

When I was his age I was obsessed with Point Horror, I don't know if they are still around?
And I'm not sure if they would be 'scary' enough for a 13 year old boy in 2016! (my 13 year old girl self back in 1996 was scared enough reading them though!)

He's not that keen on scifi/ fantasy.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Darren Shan?

I would say Stephen King might be ok, depending on your views of a tiny amount of sexual content in some of the books. The older ones in particular (Christine, The Talisman, The Shining, It) are pretty amazing.

Robert Westall wrote some excellent YA books such as The Watch House, Antique Dust, The Wheatstone Pond, The Devil On The Road. Not sure how available some of them are now, especially if he uses a Kindle etc.

Michael Marshall Smith's short stories are pretty good too, although if adult content is a concern perhaps have a read through first.
