She's just finished the Geek Girl series. She loves a series. There was a list on Mighty Girl the other day so she will be looking at those. My nephew is reading Warrior Cats.

My 13yr old is reading my old copy of Stardust by Neil Gaiman, she's loving it so far.

I feel like a bad Mummy. I have really taken my eye off the ball with her reading, whilst concentrating on younger siblings. Her birthday is coming up and she is rereading the Harry Potter series for the nth time and I really feel like I need to get her something else.
Interests wise she's a sporty, playful girl. She enjoyed HP, has previously enjoyed David Walliums and Gill Lewis but never really loved Michael Morpurgo. Reading ability wise I think she's pretty average to a bit above average. In grammar school so reasonable understanding but if I'm honest a teeny bit lazy when it comes to reading. She does well with books that she don't have to think too hard about, and can just lose herself in.
I'm guilty of steering her away from books with too much teenage content too. I know she's goring up but don't really want her reading about sex, boyfriends etc as I don't think she's emotionally there yet.

If you're worried about content I wouldn't give her the Gone series as it becomes very dark. To be honest, I'd focus on her reading for pleasure rather than making her read books she has to think about. I would recommend :-

My dd is reading Cat's Eye (Margaret Atwood) and before that read The Fault in Our Stars. She really liked The Hunger Games trilogy. Not so much into teen romance :)

She has been reading the Anne of Green Gables series, and the Emily series by L M Montgomery.

She has just read the new Rick Riordan book based round Norse mythology, the Darren Shan Cirque de Freak series,and has read the Alex Rider series by Anthony Horrowitz.

She has read all the other Rick Riordan series.

dd really likes HP, Hunger games, MAze runner, Divergent, Mortal Instruments, Legend series (MAri Lu)Was really into all Rick Riordan books. Not too keen on Geek Girl.

She has mentioned the Gone series, but I read it when ds was into it and I didn't really liked it, so have tried to steer her away from it (at least for now) too violent (I know Hunger Games etc are violent as well as well, but, at a different level somehow).

DS (and also dd 9 y old) likes Eragon series, in fact both ds and I are re-reading it now...dd 12 y has yet to be persuaded to read it. It's a bit like LOTR.

None have been really into Artemis Fowl (except me.
