My Dd has been reading some of my old faves such as The Iron Man and Harold and Bella and Jammy and Me.

Stig of the Dump is great too. Gotta love Tom's Midnight Garden as well!

DD(11) is working her way through the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. She is LOVING it though had listened to the original radio series before starting to read it. Not sure if it helps but she says she is enjoying 'hearing the voices in my head' (wonders if I should worry :o)

Agree with others' great suggestions, also could try the Jennings and Hardy Boys series, Swallows And Amazons, War Horse, novels by Louis Sachar, The Daydreamer by Ian McEwan. Happy reading!

The Djinn series (eg Fire Djinn) by Linda Davies. Very similar to Percy Jackson, imo.

There is also a series by Graham Nix. Can't remember what it is called, but each title includes the name of one of the days of the week.

Nix series is something about keys I think. It starts with Mister Monday.
My 11 year old is reading Gone and The Enemy series. He's also reading the Patrick Ness trilogy. Scary stuff!
