Stick Man- a disappointing ending!

Ah! A lovely idea by me to buy Stick Man for my daughter's birthday as it was apparently her favourite book at Playgroup last year...

Em... It arrived this morning and I just read it for the first time.

So Daddy stick is gone and the children and Mummy are sad but then at the end he comes home to the family tree! Hooray!

Now where are all the books about 1 parent families being happy without the Daddy? No I didn't think there were any!

If anybody knows any good ones, I'm all ears!

Stick Man is bloody brilliant. And the point is that they all want to be together. Our local library has quite a few story books specifically aimed at relationships breaking down and people coming out happy. And there are loads of books with only one parent in them too. Mum And Dad Glue and I Have Two Homes spring to mind as books specifically about parents separating and everybody ending up happy. I see them on the shelf every time I flick through for books for ds.

I love Stick Man

but if you want a one parent family story, what about the Harry and the Dinosaurs series, or We are Wearing Out the Naughty Step

or Mrs Vole the Vet: "Mrs. Vole has one son, two daughters, three cats, four dogs, and no husband. Mr. Vole has three stepsons, eleven rabbits, and a new wife. We will forget about him"

And from the look of The Gruffalo's Child, The Gruffalo appears to be a single father Wink

Aw, they want their dad because he went out for a walk one morning and never came back Sad. I don't think it knocks single parents.

Yes, the Gruffalo is a single parent.
