Love how these threads so often end up being about what we loved reading as kids! I read some thrillers when I was about 8-12 by an author called Malcolm somebody! Could even be somebody Malcolm! Helpful huh?! They were a bit Famous Five like but more grown up I guess and would have been written in the 70s or 80s. Had a trawl on Amazon but nothing's ringing any bells. I remember another book I loved at the time was called The Silver Crown and was similarly exciting! Wonder if anyone can vaguely remember what I might be after Smile

  1. Malcolm Saville.

  1. The Silver Crown was by Robert O'Brien. He also wrote Z for Zachariah, and Mrs Frisbee and the Rats of Nimh.

If you're going for Malcolm Saville-probably the Lone Pine Club ones (Mystery at Witchend is the first, but it's set during WWII, so doesn't read as contempory) then try and get the ones recently republished by Girls Gone By Publishers (GGBP) rather than the abridged Armada ones. They were written from about 1942 to 1979 (I think was the last). Ebay usually has a number, or search for GGBP and they're releasing another shortly I think.

He did try and modernise them as he wrote them, although the children only grew up in age about 2-3 years over the 20 adventures.

Thanks DeWe, interesting that the Armard ones are abridged.
