My son thought it was corny and derivative of Cherub and Higson.
I think I agree - it was very much teen-adventure-by-numbers (and also felt like a book written to snag a film deal); that never-ending battle at the school at the end was endless (but I'm sure it will be very "filmic"). The guy did nothing to really blend in - I was very surprised he wasn't found by the aliens a lot quicker.
