DC2 due 24 of this month. DD was born four weeks early so have been kind of expecting this baby to be the same. Am over 37 weeks now and all set for homebirth.
Woke up this morning and when I stood up had a definite trickle of fluid. Had a shower, rubbed bump a bit, and had another trickle. Not loads, but enough to make me think possibly forewaters. No other signs. Rang the hospital (still supposed to do that for homebirth) and they said come in to be checked over.
Given full checkup. Midwife lovely and said did sound like waters had started. Explained if no contractions within 36 hours would bring me in for induction but reassured me in most cases contractions would start. Was feeling excited and relieved at this point that baby making an appearance.
Put on monitor, all fine - urine dipped - showed glucose and protein (told another sign of waters going). Then in comes senior midwife to have a look, examines me, and declares no waters, just loads of discharge.
Now home, feeling more than a tad disappointed, and a bit foolish! With DD waters broke at 10cm dilated (after only three hours of contractions) so wasn't really sure what I felt.
On the plus side, I still have a rotten head cold and don't really want to labour while feeling rotten with that. Also the closer to 40wks he's born the better as DD was a really slow and difficult feeder.
But come and share your false alarms with me to cheer me up! Anyone else thought waters had gone when they hadn't?

I had a waters false alarm with ds at around 33/34 weeks? Never sure what it was, but he wasn't born until v overdue.

No real fullscale false alarms except that one, but lots of 'ooo I hope this might be the very start of something' BHs this time.

Thanks Grendle... they come when they're ready. It doesn't help that I'm not a very patient person!

I had 'waters' leaking about a week before ds came along - every morning when I woke up I seemed to leak a bit of amniotic fluid.

Was really confused and unsure all along (was it, wasn't it, should we consider an induction), but in the end when really in labour felt the waters going properly almost when ds was out....

MW said it was probably little leaks which sealed themselves up on their own.

For the last 10 days before dd was born I kept having really regular bh 5 mins apart and as soon as they got painful enough would just cut out.

Yet I every night I would be sat there thinking I am not listening and every night fate would fool me by making them a little more painful so I would think yes this it and then they would just stop.

When i eventually was in labor I refused to believe it my mum came up in the morning and was saying all day you need to go in. I eventually agreed at midnight when there was no break in cc at all and dd was born 1.46. But I laugh now at mums and dp anxious faces urging me to go in

My false alarm at 34 weeks was caused by a urinary tract infection. It practically had me screaming for an epidural.

The trickle of waters could have been a hind water leak that then sealed up again.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

Thanks for replies. I'm very fed up to be honest. So sick of every twinge feeling like labour. They've sent off my urine belgo, but I don't think have infection. No painful contractions, just bhicks which I've had every day since about 20weeks.
My mum had been helping look after DD for a few days but has gone now. I should be enjoying time with DD but instead am just moping around. As a result she'd much rather be with DH than me. The problem with having had an early baby before is that every day after she was born feels like being overdue to me. Not that I know what that feels like - respect to those who have gone two weeks over!
I need a dose of patience and some distraction!

I went 10 days over and my advice is do you hate your MIL if so just smile to yourself in the knowledge that everyday you are pg is probably driving her insane

Funny slushy! Sadly have no real cross to bear with mil. She lives abroad and is a very nice lady. She is phoning every few days at the moment though.
It seems I'm not the only one who thought this baby would be early too. In fact, the phone hasn't really stopped. I plan not to answer it tonight!
