Sorry to be crude but.... a good hard seeing to worked for me . My friend recommended it as for her last 2 babies that's what got things moving. Sorry to be crude (again), but it does have to be quite rough. With me, I'd had my show after 5 hours and went into labour the next morning. Good luck!

hahaha thanks might try that although im so damn uncomfortable atm!!! been told to start expressing milk cos of the gd and in the leaflet it says 'if u experience period like pains stop'.....does this mean i should keep going cos it might trigger off labour???

Have heard on here that prolonged nipple stimulation gets things going so I guess it's the same effect.

ok will ignore the leaflet on expressing and just go for it!!!!

btw am i being too optimistic at 37+1 that i can get things moving along?? baby is only 4/5ths engaged but with dc1 had him at 36+6 so hoping i dont have too long to wait!!!

Worth a try and i'm sure DP won't mind helping out

You could definately get things moving if baby is 4/5, subsequent babies don't usually engage until just before labour.
Good luck!

Could you ask for a couple of sweeps in the couple of days before to see if you can get started without induction?

Have they explained why induction will be beneficial? I understand you have GD but that isn't neccessarily a good reason to induce unless there are other concerns. Was your previous baby an 11 pounder or something?

I gather the nipple stimulation needs to be done for aaaggggeeeesss so watch for RSI Some people use a pricked evening primose oil capsule as a pessary but not sure if this might have unwanted side effects. My friend used castor oil to avoid induction, but it can make the baby pass meconium and gave her the terrible shits tbh.

nope my ds was only 5lb 11oz but arrived at 36+6. think they want to induce cos im measuring 2 weeks ahead atm, BUT i did have a scan 2 weeks ago and baby and fluid was measuring dead on for the dates! not sure why they want to induce though except for the gd which is perfectly under control all my sugar readings are in the 4's and 5's

Apparently an orgasm can help move things along, I think it's something to do with oxytocin. Obviously you don't have to have sex if you don't feel up to it.

Just a word of caution on the shagathon, me and DH had 3 days of epic sessions about a fortnight ago and I ended up with cystitis, which led to antibiotics, which led to all sorts of trouble!

So enjoy yourself, but please make sure you and DH have a good wash first with plain old water (no scented soaps), try to use positions that don't stimulate you at the front too much (not much fun in that I know), and make sure you have a wee within 5 minutes of finishing to flush out any germs that have worked their way up there.

I'm 39 + 3 now and have only just worked up the courage to have another go.

Oh the romance!

If it's any consolation I had an induction 2nd time round (but not first) as I was overdue. As I'd already had a baby it was not the drawn-out 3 day affair, but all over in just over 3 hours - without a drip, so not too intense - so you never know, it might not be too bad. That said, I think I still would have preferred the nice home birth I had planned.

I wanted to avoid the induction and tried most of the things listed above. The only thing that made me twinge at all was reflexology.

Ooh, and if you have a sweep, sex afterwards is supposed to help.

i had a homebirth planned but thats not happening now! i was induced with dc1 and had an epidural hoping not to this time but i reckon i will cave in and want it!!!

this baby IS going to come out before the induction!!!

Ok, here is what worked for me:

LOTS of activity ie walking, ideally uphill whilst pushing a pram or pushing DS1 who was learning to ride his bike without stabilisers at the time

Sex - repeatedly, yep, did not feel like it..

Hot curry - also repeatedly

Acupuncture

Bouncing on Swiss Ball

All of the above in the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy. I also had 2 membrane sweeps and was over 41 weeks gestation going for a VBAC.

Good luck. Hope you get things going.

My 3 hour induction was without pain relief - so you never know... By the time I got to it the pessary just seemed like one more thing to try to get the baby out. It started the labour but it wasn't like an induced labour, iyswim.

Anyway, I hope your baby arrives before it gets to that!

If you try everything and it doesn't work don't beat yourself up about it either - I everything mentioned on this thread, but no joy..

I really should preview. I tried everything
