So when do I go to hospital?

Hey everyone

Just a quick question, got my show this morning bout 5 am and contractions started soon after. Was supposed to get membrane sweep today and checkup as am 40 + 3. Seen consultant this morning (had 9am appointment so though I may as well attend)she did an internal, said I wasn't dialted but definetly on my way (finally, woo ) Got home round 10 and have been having regular contractions, ten minutes apart since then. Not very strong ones tho, went for a nap and found I could doze through them. Consultant said to come in whenever I felt ready....But have always been told by midwives to come in when contractions are 10 minutes apart....Quite comfortable at home for now, and live literally 5 mins from hospital....just confused as to when I should go. Any advice?

Sorry for rambling, is my first pregnancy and am a bit nervous

Think the general advice is more like five minutes apart. Or when you need pain relief

Exciting time. Good luck.

As long as there are no risk factors meaning you should be in hospital then I would say 5mins apart lasting at least 40secs or more and REGULAR.

Sing a song through contactions, when you cannot sing through them anymore its time to go in

Timing meant nothing with mine, they were 10 seconds long, 12 mins apart and i was 9cms! All over the place,

just go when you feel you need a midwife there.

I think I was told not to go to hospital until 3 mins apart! With DD I think I got my show late on the Friday night - I was either already having contractions or they started shortly after - and she didn't arrive until 5.20 on the Sunday morning.

I would wait until your finding it difficult to manage if you're that close to the hospital. Home is probably the best place for you at the moment and if you're not in established labour they may well send you home again. If you're happy at home I would stay there as long as you can. Try and relax and stay calm as much as possible and good luck!!
