Childbirth

Anyone else over due and feeling quite overwhelmed and powerless about it all?

41 + 2 days, and under pressure from midwife to have sweeps and book in for chemical induction. I am hoping to have a home birth but if I go beyond 13 days this is no longer an option. I am feeling quite overwhelmed with it all and doing battle with the midwives (currently no medical reason why I need to be induced) is stressing me out a bit! I have had one sweep which was extremely unpleasant and not an experience I wish to repeat. Now resorting to traditional methods (long walks, curries, sex, raspberry leaf tea, pineapple, clary sage oil etc etc). I know I cannot be forced to have an induction and I will of course be sensible and do as they tell me if there is any sign of weak placenta/foetal distress but its all very draining! Feeling a bit like the chilled out "natural" birth I had imagined is slipping away and its all turning into a bit of a drama! Anyone else in the same boat?

I really wish the MW's would realise how stressful they make it when they start talking sweeps and induction.

It will happen and it will happen soon. I know it's hard, but don't waste your energy on all of the stresses and pressures going on around you. Concentrate and take time out to lay down in a cool, dark, quiet room and talk to your baby and tell it that you are ready when they are ready and that you can't wait to meet them. Get some feel good hormones running through your body instead of doubt and stress.

Also good cervix bashing pokey sex worked for me

Good luck and just remember you WILL have your baby in your arms soon and you WILL be at home surrounded by your belongings and your loved ones.
