Can labour start without having a show? I'm sure i should know the answer to this question but at 40 weeks + I'm being a bit thick about everything it seems!

That's yes labour started for me without a show/plug, not yes everyone has a show/plug!

God, think I'll just shut up now

Only had a show with DD, didn't with the previous two so...

Yes, you can go into labour without having a show.

I didn't have a show either time. Both were induced labours and the first sign that anything was happening was when the waters broke.

i didn't have a show and neither did my waters break with either one of mine.

no - three babies, no shows! (all 10 days late as well so I was assiduously looking for the bloody plugs for about 3 weeks each time, pshaw)

Ditto PPh.
3 babies and no shows 2 were 6 days late, 1 was 2 days late.

My waters didn't break either time, I was ever so worried about that happening, in the middle of the supermarket or something!

I didn't have a show until I was 6cm. My waters didn't break either, they had to do it for me.

I didn't have a show and my waters didn't break, even after they tried to break them...twice! Perhaps I had no water???!!!! That can't be possible can it?!

thanks very much for all the replies. Believe it or not, I've even forgotten what the contractions felt like with DS (and he's only 3 and a half). Mother Nature's way of making sure you're not put off from having more children I suppose is to make sure you forget all the pain of the first.

I never had a show. It was only when I was in established labour that things started leaking out (TMI and YUK!, I know).

No, I didn't have any with ds2 but bucketloads with ds3 - nice

Had a show at 6cm dilated! followed by the midwife breaking my waters when fully dilated ready to push!

My labour started with my waters breaking and so I didn't have a 'show'.
