Hiya,

Not sure if this is anything but don't wnat to call the hospital yet as I am here on my own and it would involve finding someone to give me a lift there and back (ABOUT £60 IN TAXI FARES OTHERWISE)

I've had backache all morning which is gradually getting worse and making me feel sick, baby was 3/5 palpable last time they checked (last week and first baby), keep smelling a really sweet smell like marzipan when I go to the bathroom, been getting pain low down in the groin area as well.

I'm 38+5 today.

Is this anything or shall I just relax and wait for it to pass?

I would call the hospital, they are really not likely to have you come in unnecessarily.

Call the hospital, maybe the smell is the amniotic fluid. Give them a call and they'll tell you what the best thing to do is.

how far away is the hospital?

i would give them a ring.

mine was about 10 mins away and they said dont come in until i can't speak during contractions !

i would advise sticking to this advice though as i only just made it on to a side ward bed for my DS !!!

could be ketones in urine? I believe they smell like pear drops when exhaled in breath but they may also smell from urine??
Just guessing really
Am expert in ketones at the moment due to hyperemesis

that smell is not right, i think your waters are leaking - please at least call your midwife to come out and check you.....

This smell could be indicative of gestational diabetes or a metabolic disorder
Please ring mid wife she will do home visit surely?

Waters are very sweet smelling. Don't know about marzipan though.

My waters leaked very slowly from before the contractions started, so sounds like labour to me. Def worth a call to be on safe side.
