35 weeks, waters broken, 24 hours later no contractions...

Hi all

I am 35 weeks pregnant, my water broker early last night (at 34+6 weeks) at 2.00am. I've been in the hospital for about 26 hours now, apparently the monitor shows I'm contracting a little but I'm not feeling them regularly.
I had a steroid injection and taking antibiotics to reduce risk of infection. I have steroid injection no.2 at 4.30pm (36 hours after water broken) and if I am not feeling contractions they will send me home with antibiotics to come back every two days and be induced in a few weeks, 37 weeks or possibly 38 (they haven't made it clear!)

I just want to have this baby, anybody else been in the same situation before? Just want to know what to expect, they are quite vague. I hoped to be in labour by now. Also anything I can do to start my contractions naturally?

P.s when I came in they said I'm 1cm dilated. Baby's head is engaged and my cervix is soft (whatever that means!!!)

Hi, you situation is nearly identical to my first. My waters broke at 35+4 (a Monday morning) when I got up in the morning. No contractions, no pain just a lot of water. I went into hospital and had the steroids, antibiotics etc. Slightly different that i wasn't allowed home though. I was booked in for an induction for Thursday morning but naturally went into labour on the Wednesday night. And she was born 5 hours later.

My waters broke at 35 weeks but my baby was breech and I was 3 or 4 cm dilated when examined. I had a c-section a few hours later. We did have to stay in a week and my baby needed neonatal care as he was jaundiced, couldn't maintain his temperature, and had low blood sugar. I hope you can hang on in there. Best of luck - I remember being so frightened when it happened to me. (My baby is now nearly 4 and perfectly healthy!)

Maybe you're like me and have naturally long labour's. It's a real pain in the neck for me. I have 4 children and am expecting my 5th, currently 12 weeks pregnant.

With my first child I had to be induced at 41 weeks as he just didn't want to come. I was having a lot of braxton hicks, which I am now beginning to think is slow labour! I had to be induced with numerous pessaries until finally it all started. 48 hours. Wasn't fun.

My second child, my daughter was born at 37+3. Contractions started an hour after doing the business with my husband. But didn't go into labour straight away and was kept in hospital until they induced me with the horrible drip. She was also 48 hour labour.

Third child, I had gone into labour in the night, waters broke on the bed. I was 38+5
. Went to hospital, nothing happening and was sent home. Spent the day at home labouring with husband doing puzzles, cleaning as well and watching TV. Told we could not have sex to speed things up as its dangerous to do when your waters break.
Had him the next day. A total of 36 hours. That was my best one. Was. Able to do some at home and then had a water birth. Highly recommend!

And then my 4th one born 2018, she came late at 40+4. Started having contractions in the night, wasn't that much dilated when we got to the hospital around 7am. So went home. Things started to speed up. Then slowed down. Then went to collect the kids as just thought it wasn't going to happen. When we got to collect the kids 7pm, contractions started coming on more Quickly so we decided to keep them at the relatives and head off to the hospital . She was born the next day though at 10am. Total of 32 hours labour.

Really hoping that baby number 5 will be quicker. Long labour's aren't great but I'm surprisingly so fast at deliveries. Out within a few minutes. My last baby was 4 pushes. My husband couldn't believe it.

I also was in slow labour's also with my last two children for about 2 weeks prior which is a real pain too. Cos you're constantly like, is it, or isn't it.

Are you still in hospital, if so plenty of walking round the hospital, up and down the stairs and so on. I had to do all that with my second to get things moving!!! Even squats just whatever you can to get things going!!!!!
