Sunday induction panic

Hi
It’s my due date on Sunday and I’m booked in for induction (due to age and bmi high risk to baby). I’ve had 6 sweeps 😖 to try and start things off to no avail and am panicking about being induced. I had DD (who turned 2 today!) through induction which was a horrific experience. Propess for 24 hours on open induction ward with 2 ladies screaming throughout. propess didn’t work. Broke waters. Nothing. Went on drip. When it came to push I’d been awake for 3 days and the gas and air had made me so sick I had nothing left. Ended up in surgery having episiotomy and forceps. Lost lot of blood and was in quite a bad way. Episiotomy went very wrong and after being in agony for 5 months had to have corrective surgery which saw a lot of my ‘area’ cut away. So now I have a whole lot of scar tissue down there which is likely to split or be cut. I overheal and am likely to again leading to the same problems. I’m so scared of going on the drip and not handling the pain and tearing and the aftermath of what that will mean. I’ve been offered a C section but been advised against due to my 2 year old being very active and a risk but my panic is making me reconsider. They will offer propess but worried that will not work and just delay things. Or should I just go straight to drip and demand an epidural. My midwife said they won’t give epidural straight away. Just don’t know what to do for best. Anyone had a horrific first experience and any positive tales/ advice on second? Gosh sorry to go on! Thanks if you’ve got this far x

You need to try and get sleep and food during the early stages. So I would probably ask them not to break waters (and start the clock) until you know you need the drip. That would allow you to sleep (get ear plugs!).

As for tearing again - regardless of whether you go for an epidural or not, request that you can labour on your side and ask for a hands on delivery. Being on your side slows things down and that in combination with the mw manually supporting your perinium will result in a lower degree of tear (if you even get one) and instrumental deliveries.

I was induced for ds2- nothing as traumatic as you but 2 things stick in my head. First my midwifes advice to get epidural straight off (which I ignored 🙄) keep asking if its refused, second was that generally your body is more open to labour if its done it before .
So if I was you I'd get an epidural and try to sleep until they really need to break water, as mentioned labour however you can but back is hardest, talk to midwife about scarring and how they'll help you. I know first birth was traumatic but that doesnt reflected t this one. Take it a step at a time, trust you body, get drugs! Get sleep and good luck. Exciting times- you lo is going to be a big sister/,brother!x

Thanks ladies. Didn’t have to be induced after all. Waters broke at Xmas market yesterday and delivered just after midnight. Ended up having on midwife led unit with just gas and air as was so quick. 2nd degree tear which will be closely monitored.
