Cramps at 35 weeks

Hello everyone, wondered if anyone has the same symptoms?
I'll be 35 weeks with our first baby on Wed, and yesterday and today I've been having on/off cramps, not as bad as period pains, but definitely enough to make me notice and at times gasp with the pain.
I've been a bit more tired this last week and have been very thirsty yest/ today too. Braxton hicks have definitely stepped up today too.

Also does anyone know if it makes any difference if your Mum gave birth early with her first (7 weeks) would that be any more likely that I would go early?

I really don't know what to expect! Any advice greatly appreciated.
Might give my midwife a call tomorrow if it still is crampy tomorrow.

Thanks all

Are the cramps quite regular or totally random?,

Do you have a number for a midwife that you can ring any time (I had the number for the community midwives for things like this, but don't know if that's the same everywhere)

If it continues, or the cramps become quite regular I think I'd ring either the midwives or the labour ward for advice.

Thank you for your reply. They are totally random. I might get quite a crampy hour, with cramps every few minutes and then nothing for a few hours and then a bad half hour and then nothing again. Kind of like this since yest morn when I got up.
Yea I have the number for out of hours, but was wanting a bit of advice first, as I wasn't sure if this is normal or not?

Are you still getting regular movements? I would phone triage for advice.

It's impossible to say really, but I'd want to be checked out. It's been going on for a couple of days now, call and have a chat to them.

Don't want to worry you too much, but what you're describing is what I had in the build up to labour, with both of mine. On and off for a few days. Everybody is different though, but I think you should ring and probably go in to be checked out

See I was wondering if it was the build up to labour, but I have no idea what to expect!
How sore would you have said the cramps were? Out of ten, I'd say mine were a 3 or 4, so not really that bad, but constant at times. I've had horrendous period pain in the past so bad I've thrown up with the pain, so I'm comparing it to that!

Mine weren't very painful, like period pain but just over a larger area.

They were definitely doing something though. First time was 4cm before any real pain kicked in, second one I was 7cm at first exam. They didn't believe I was in labour.

That's just me though, apparently slow ramp up and then when it gets going, it's quick.

Not constant though. Wave of pain, lasted for a few minutes, then would just go away again.

Could you be in slow labour?

Well the pains aren't getting much more painful I don't think? Just still niggling away there. Did you have any other symptoms or just the pains?

No other symptoms really, just cramps on and off for a few days. I was 38 weeks though so not worried.

The thing is, everybody's experience is just so different that it's impossible to tell for sure without being examined.

As you're not quite 35 weeks, and there's a possibility that this is early labour, you should get checked out. If you are going into labour then I think there are things they can do - steroids the help the baby's lungs, for example, and the earlier these are given the better.

Give them a call, it might be that they're happy for you to wait until the morning, but they might request you go in now for observation

Had a great sleep last night and no cramps so far today, so not sure what that was all about! I'm off to work, so will keep an eye on it and phone midwife if it starts up again. Thanks for your concern.

Update: cramps continued again, so phoned midwife, and they wanted me to come in to.l be checked. And they think it's been an infection causing the cramping and have taken samples to test. Also may have gestational diabetes so I have a scan and glucose test on Wed morning. Doctor has told me I need to have at least 2 days off work and will review me on Wed when I'm in.

I am 35 weeks with my third baby and in agony with cramps, tightenings and a uterus that appears to have periods do painful spasms. My stomach is rock hard and Iike something out of Alien 👽 been like this for two and a bit weeks now. I am at my wits end.

Anyway, eleven hospital trips in three weeks - only one planned - has resulted in amongst other things being told I have an irritable uterus. Interestingly my urine sample has been sent off today and I learned that infections can cause this. So we shall see. Every episode of tightenings needs monitoring as baby is still breech. Looking probable that I will be admitted if one more repeat this week.

It's awful. I just want to go into labour because I have had enough. Both my other two were like this but it started about 37 weeks not 32!

Hope you feel much better soon.
