Hi I am a NHS professional who is researching to see how many women can recall what they were told by their anaesthetist before their epidural, when they were in labour.
Labour pain start much earlier than when the epidural is sited. This is even more valid if it is a first timer (primi). By the time we receive the request for epidural, most of the labouring mothers would have had gas and air or pethidine, which can impair their ability to assimilate and recall the information given by the anaesthetist, thus invalidating their consent for epidural!!!
Was just wondering, how many of you can recall the information given by your anaesthetist before giving epidural? What are the different possible complication(s) he mentioned to you? Do you think it would have been more useful if such informations are provided during the antenatal period? Many thanks in advance.
