Induced on due date because of growth - hand hold please?

Hi I know I'm probably worrying unduly, but after coming back from every appointment being told that everything's going really well, yesterday came as a big shock for me.

I am consultant led due to a disability so yesterday at my 39 week check up they measured my tummy and found that it was smaller than the week before. I was sent for a scan and they found that although baby was still measuring around 38-40 weeks, his progress had plateaued slightly. They want to do a sweep next week and then induce me on my due date (Thursday).

I keep crying thinking I've done something wrong. Was it that cured meat I ate? Have I been doing too much? They told me to 'go home and relax' but this has really scared me. They said they are inducing just to be on the safe side and that if anything was 'really wrong' they would have induced me on the spot. I'm really hoping we might go into labour on our own as I am nervous about the induction.

Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing? Any positive induction stories?

Any help really appreciated today x

Hi sorry to hear this but don't feel bad. It's nothing you have done. It's possible that bump has gotten smaller as baby has moved down into the pelvis? Baby has "dropped" so to speak.
Measures of size and weight on a scan aren't accurate I was told at 39+3 baby was 9lb 6Oz and he was born 10 days later at 8lb 11Oz. And they are right if they were really worried baby would be straight out.
I would say try to stay calm but at the same time keep active if you can, walk, bounce on ball etc gravity can help get baby going.
Hopefully your sweep will be enough to set you off, it is for a lot of people.
Good luck!!

Thanks so much Emma x they said that the measurements are really hard to do at this stage and there might not even be anything to worry about at all, but as he's full term he might as well come out!

I know I am over reacting. It's just hard when it's your baby and you just want him to be okay x

Please don't worry. It sounds like they are being extra cautious and looking after you and your baby. Nothing you have done has suddenly influenced this. Try, as best you can, to relax and you'll see you baby really soon!!!!

If he's still measuring 38-40 weeks he'll likely be fine, just ready to come out.
My first DD was growth restricted and only weighed 5lbs 15oz at 39 weeks when I was induced. The induction was great and DD was perfectly healthy. Best of luck Flowers

This happened to me, it was fine, DD was fine and 3lb bigger than their estimated weight Hmm.

Like they said, if they were worried, they'd have been inducing you right away, you're in good hands, not long to go now ❤️

My midwife told me yesterday that she has known growth scans to be out by as much as 4 weeks! Can you ask to be rescanned?

Did they give a growth scan? I was measured 38 weeks and then 34 weeks 3 days later. I was 36 weeks.
