Waters broke 7 hrs ago. Had a couple of contractions now nothing. Booked for induction tomorrow morning which I really don't want as I know I won't feel as comfortable in hospital - this is my second pregnancy and my firstvlabour was over in less than 5 hours so I'm dreading a long drawn out one this time Sad

I think it's usually quite fast once your waters have gone. Hopefully you'll get going tonight. My waters went at midnight, no contractions until 1pm the next day then baby at 7.

Ooh, yes!

My waters broke at about 9am Halloween 2015. Absolutely naff all happened all day. I went to Asda, saw trick or treaters, went out for a steak, watched the shining (as you do).

Midnight on the 1st Nov things started kicking off. My son was born at 5am so 19 hours after waters breaking but only 5 hours of active labour. When it got to the time of my induction he was 4 hours old :)

Best wishes!

Yes me for dc2. Waters broke at 4am on a Wednesday morning and nothing happened all day. Midwife cane round at 4pm to do a swab to confirm it was my waters (it was) and booked me in for induction at 8am the following morning if nothing happened. I did not want to be induced at all and wanted another home-birth (dc1 was 5hrs start to finish).

Contractions were stop start but very very mild.

Went to hosp at 8am Thursday and got monitored. Saw the consultant and said I really wanted to stay home. He said ok, but you'll need to come in every 24hrs for monitoring.

Contractions still stop start throughout the day/evening but everso mild. Went to bed very downhearted but at midnight they kicked in for real and dc2 was born at home at 5am on the Friday morning.

The midwife said that it was more like a third labour (apparently notorious for being trickier). But it was fine, all worked out good.

Good luck!

Mine broke with my first. No contractions. Next morning they checked and I was 5cm donated (still no contractions) they burst rest of waters which kick started contraction full on and baby was born an hour and ten minutes later.

With my first , the waters broke and my boy was delivered 24 hours later

You might start yourself if not you'll be given something to help you start.
My sister waters broke and nothing happened and she was induced 3 days after because they didnt want her or baby to catch a infection. Tbh its not that bad giving birth in the hospital.. its when you get put on the maternity ward after, that drove me crazy. Poor midwifes would have been sick off me constantly asking when I could leave. Everyone is different though.
I was booked in to be induced 10 days over the morning I woke up my back was so sore and i was getting small contractions every so often so I knew I was difinity going to go into labour that day with or without the persary. But anyway I was given the persary and damn do those things kick you right into labour.. 6 and a half hours of labour later and DD arrived. Congratulation, hope everything go's well Smile

I had just the same with DD1 and DD2. Induced with both after waters broke and nowt happened. First labour took 22 hours following drip - gel insertion 7 hours prior did nothing. Second time around, I was prepared for another long haul. Boy was I wrong - gel worked this time and once contractions started ( 3 hours later) then I delivered DD2 within the hour.

Whether the speed of the second time around was due to a more effective induction or body saying we've been here before, who knows.

But both times I had to stay in for an extended period due to gap between waters breaking and delivery and increased risk of infection, regular monitoring of baby etc. So good luck OP but be prepared for this!

My waters broke (more like popped) with DC2 at 1am, but no proper contractions for 12 hours. DC2 put in an appearance at 4pm the same day.
Have you tried nipple tweaking? With DC2 in a bid to encourage labour I used my breast pump at 12pm, and within 15 mins my contractions had started in earnest.
Also, while things are calm try and eat some slow release food - porridge, oat biscuits or pasta. You'll need the energy!
Good luck!

This happened twice for me.
1st baby, about 12 days overdue, waters broke in the early hours, was told nothing was happening and sent home. Went back 12 hours later as I thought there was meconium in the waters. They then induced me, baby born about 12 hours later.

3rd baby, waters broke at about 10 days overdue on the Tuesday evening. Went backwards and forwards to the hospital a few times (at my instigation) but kept getting sent home. Said they would induce on the Friday morning, I phoned as instructed on the Friday, told they were too busy and to call later. Told they were too busy a few times so ended up turning up and waiting for a few hours. Was induced at about 5pm and baby was born about 2hours later - very easy experience.

My waters broke first with both dc. Babies born after long labours (31hrs and 38hrs respectively) and both were EMCS but - and I can't stress this enough - this doesn't mean it wasn't positive. Positive doesn't mean textbook or natural necessarily. My second emcs was funny and joyful and labour barely warranted a grimace. The positivity came from good support and feeling listened to.

Good luck!

Waters broke early hours one morning, labour started early hours of next morning and baby born early hours the morning after that! Easy labour thanks to epidural! Good luck, hope it all goes swimmingly!

Interesting reading this thread as I am currently with my wife in the maternity Ward.

Her waters broke 2am yesterday morning. Attended triage and they confirmed it was waters and the clock started for the next 18hrs and hope of labour. unfortunately nothing so we had to be admitted for induction as per their policy due to infection risks.

Pessary given at 10pm last night. Few hours later contraction type pains began but very random and no specific interval times. It's now midday and they have pretty much dissappearEd to 1 every 20 mins or so.

Waiting to see what happens and if nothing it's re-examine at 2200 tonight and a further 8 hours wait. Then it's break waters if some still remain and onto the drip to force labour. Not quite the low risk midwife led birth we had planned up until yesterday night.

My waters went, nothing happened for two days, so I was induced. 22 hours later and still only 3cm dilated so emergency c-section it was. He was a big baby in an unhelpful position.

I still view it as a positive birth experience even though it might not look that way. I was well looked after, well-informed and my baby was born without any complications despite having waters broken for 3 days. Sure I would have preferred for it to go differently, but I didn't feel anxious during the whole thing.

Good luck!

My waters went at 6 am. No contractions and I went for hospital at 12 who booked me in for an induction the next day.
Contractions started at 7pm the same day and baby was born in 2 hours. I was shocked.

Had to go into hospital for monitoring at 7am they sent me home at about 12pm, booked in for a c section the next day as I can't be induced. Contractions started about 1pm dd born at 4.05pm don't fret too much get walking around and fingers crossed it'll start on its own.

This happened with my ds's 2, 3 4 and 5 (not with ds1 for some reason, my waters went when I was pushing with him). DS2 and DS3 came out without help, ds2 104 hours after waters going and DS3 after 69 hours. DS4 and DS5 had to be hauled out through the sunroof, ds4 after 51 hours with no waters and DS5 after 214 hours.
