I had my LO on Saturday night - straight forward induction and vaginal delivery. She was born with strawberry marks on her eyelids and into her eyebrows. Midwives have said there is a good chance they'll fade although a few do turn into permanent birth marks. From experience, anyone know how long they take to fade if they do? And if they are permanent have they stayed red or changed colour?

My DS has two on the back of his head. He's four months old now and they're starting to fade away to a light pink.

They usually fade by the age of two, although my daughters one on the back of her neck didn't. No way to guess it, I'm sorry, but they aren't hugely obtrusive so I wouldn't worry, congrats on your new baby 💐

My DD has a strawberry mark in a similar position, quite prominent at birth, not noticeable now except if she gets really cross and even then it's just a bit pinker than the rest of her face

Congratulations, my son has one on the back of his head.

It's lightened but it's never fully went away, he's 5.

Hi both my babies had them I was told they would go by the age of five! First child had two went by 2/3 second went before 18months! I was shocked when I first saw them but devastasted when their strawberries went as it became them.

Salmon patches or strawberry naevi?

If visible at birth on eyelids they are more likely to be salmon patches (same idea as stork marks on forehead/back of head). These stay the same size but gradually fade over first couple of years of life.

Strawberry naevi however are often not very visible at birth but develop properly over the first few weeks. They stand out from the skin and can be quite bumpy - they look like little strawberries.

If your dd has strawberries on her eyelids she may be offered treatment if they grow and interfere with vision. But strawberries are not common on both eyes whereas salmon patches are.

My dd had both. Tiny strawberry on her cheek. Larger on her back and salmon patches and stork marks. She looked like she had lost a fight!

The facial marks were barely visible by 14 months. But even when older when she cries they pink up for a bit!

Congratulations. They are really very common. When you look at babies for them you can see them but you won't have noticed how many have them before because they really do fade into the back ground.

I remember really worrying about my daughter's patches. Worrying about disfigurement from birth. Then thinking I was a horrible person. That she would manage. They weren't that bad. But I wanted her to be perfect.... and these were just so visible.

But this was in the early days when my mood was all over the place. And now I look back a little sad that these were my thoughts.

So I don't want to suggest you were as shallow/worried as me. But in case you were.... they go away. Really they do.

My DC had those around their eyes, back of head etc. By the age of two they had virtually faded unless they are angry, crying etc then you can see the redness a little bit. They were very angry purple red at birth but very very faint and not noticeable now.

My lb has one onhis eyelid shaped like a lightening bolt. We just say his Harry Potter scar slipped. It is fading 5 months on.

My twins are 4 and had these. You can only see them now if they are angry or crying.

My little boy had a mark between his eyes/over his nose. It faded by about 2,5 though sometimes show up if he's really angry and red in the face! I can still vaguely see it, but only because I know it's been there.

DS had a big one on the inside of his arm. It faded pretty quickly.

My little sister had two. One was on forehead & one is on shoulder blade. The one on her head disappeared almost completely by the time she was 1. The one on her back has faded & is barely noticeable.

My DD had one on her face. It faded and sort of "grew out" with her, if that makes sense. You can't see it now unless you really know where to look and you peer and search for it.

Thanks everyone. I'm not overly concerned - they are not obtrusive and midwife seemed to think they'd fade anyway. Sounds fairly common from everyone's responses. She's doing brilliantly though so couldn't be happier

They won't be strawberry marks if they were there at birth. They sound like salmon patches (stork marks), which are very common and will fade completely in a year or two. Strawberry marks are different and if near the eyes are likely to require treatment - doesn't sound like that's what your DD had though.

Congratulations! My DD had one on her back which was quite big and it had disapeared by the time she was 4, it shrank visibly every month.

Duchess my DD's strawberry mark was there at birth. I know it was a strawberry mark as the doctor and the midwife told me.

My sons strawberry mark developed when he was 4 weeks old and grew reasonably rapidly until he was 10 months. He's just over 2 and it's gone.

My DS1 has quite a prominent strawberry mark on his arm (quite faded now at age 4). DS2 has a salmon patch in a V shape in his forehead that you can't really see now at 18 months.

The midwife who delivered DS2 said it was a strawberry mark on his face, which really concerned me because it was close to his eyes and was quite large. I asked another MW about it and she reassured me that it was actually a salmon patch and that it wasn't anything to be concerned about. I think it's quite easy to get the two confused!

My ds(now 18) had a red mark on his belly button after his umbilical cord stump fell off.
It was so cute but unfortunately it did stay. Not sure what age but think it was by about 1.

They usually take a while to develop - I'm not an expert though!

The MW said DS2's definitely wasn't a strawberry mark because it was there at birth.

DS1's strawberry mark was of great interest to the doctors because there was another type of deeper birthmark at the same site. I talked about it quite a lot even though it wasn't in a problem area.
