Childbirth

7.5 weeks after birth abdominal pain and bleeding

I have also posted in general health but thought this was maybe a more relevant topic.

I gave birth 7.5 weeks ago - vaginal delivery with no stitches or other complications. Bled for a few weeks but bleeding had totally stopped by 5 weeks postpartum. In the last 10 days or so I've noticed the tissue is sometimes slightly pink when I wipe (no obvious blood in urine) and this weekend I've started spotting - it is fresh blood colour and vaginal bleeding rather than in urine. My periods returned 16 months postpartum after DC1 and I am breastfeeding again so wasn't expecting periods to start so soon this time round.

The left side of my stomach has been really tender since giving birth. It feels normal until any slight pressure is applied (eg holding baby against my stomach) and then it is really sore. I saw a doctor a couple of weeks ago who said I have a stomach hernia but at my 6 week check last week a different doctor said she couldn't feel any lumps so disagreed I have a hernia but said that my stomach muscles are slightly separated.

I'm now really concerned about the stomach pain which isn't improving combined with vaginal bleeding so long after giving birth. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I'd contact your midwife or maternity triage for advice, I know it's post birth but I would be wanting to get checked out for any retained parts of placenta. I had tenderness right after birth and they were initially concerned it could be a clot but it then subsided and that was just a few hours after, so I would call and get checked out for peace of mind.

Maternity will not see you. Over 6weeks is completely out of maternity care, most areas midwife will not see you after 28days.
I would suggest go back to GP or see a different GP and seeing if they will refer you for a scan to ensure your uterus is empty

Call out of hours GP - I think this is now dealt with through 111. You could have retained placenta. It needs to be checked ASAP as the bleeding could get suddenly worse.
