Poor care? Did you complain? Was your complaint handled well?

I'm in the middle of the complaints process with my local nhs about the birth of DC and I feel I am being given the run around. They have upheld the complaint but no real action has been taken and they seem intent on just saying anything they can to get rid of me and cover up rather than improving the service. I've even been lied to several times. It breaks my heart to think that across the country women may be being fobbed off and maternity services are not improving and not learning from mistakes so I thought I would find out if this is a one off or a common trend with complaints. So I was hoping some of you would be willing to share your experiences of making a complaint about your local maternity services and what you thought. I've put some questions below if they help if not go ahead and just give your thoughts.

  1. Were you unhappy with your care during pregnancy or birth or postnatal? If so did you complain?

  2. If you complained did you feel it was taken seriously by those investigating?

  3. Did you feel the incident was thoroughly investigated and that they were open and honest with you about the outcome of the investigation?

  4. Did you feel lessons were learnt as a result of your complaint? did you feel actions were taken to improve the service and avoid the mistake being repeated?

  5. Generally how did you feel about the way your complaint was handled? Do you have any other comments about the whole process?

What is your complaint? And what kind of response would you be happy with?
