It occurs in a lot of pregnancies (over 30%). Most women are not aware and I have diagnosed loads in women that did not realise (I'm a physio). Its not really a problem unless its more than 2 centimetres in width at 12 months and then its often not a problem. They do take a while to settle but you must avoid sit ups or any action that is sit up like. So careful getting up from a reclined chair, off the floor, out of a bath etc. Just until it is less than 2 centimetres.
A good physio can show you some abdominal exercises that can help with recovery. They can also measure it and monitor its progress. Pilates also helps.
Hope its not causing you too many problems.

If you want to do something about it, I've found Mutu system v helpful.

I've had physio, I still have 5cmsplit (was 7-8) I'm very slim, tall, carried big babies. All out front..

I've tried Erin o'briens DVD but just short term effects. I am still Breastfeeding my 8.5m son so I know the muscles will still be relaxed..

I have three children almost 4, 2.5, and 8.5m so quite close and I never thought I had a problem after my first, I inly realised in my second pregnancy. Then more so now.
My intestines cramp and pop up through the gap Confused

Does anyone know of anything you can do to prevent this happening? I'm 25+1 and grateful for any advice on this.

I didn't know I had & had never heard of it until awkwardly lifted then toddler off the floor & had terrible pain overnight. Ended up having non-emergency surgery.

Yikes! That sounds really painful isee. Did the surgery fix the issue? Hope you're feeling better.

Yes all sorted thanks, was 5 years ago.
Just to say though that consultant said small spilts more troublesome/risky to patient as more likely that intestine gets stuck & circulation cut off than big split where you can manually pop guts back through yourself. All gross eugh.

It's the bulging tummy insides I hate.

I'm scared that if I try to fix, it's fixing and not healing the deep tissue
