Help! How do I get thus labour to progress?

I'm 40+11 and due to my obs history I'm booked in for an elcs tomorrow which I'd rather avoid. I had a sweep yesterday and I was 2cm dilated. I had a brown show (sorry if TMI) afterwards and quite uncomfortable period like cramps all evening. Nothing progressed during the night and cramps had disappeared this morning. As the day progressed the cramps reappeared but they're not coming and going like I would expect of contractions. However, I think I lost my mucous plug around lunchtime so the signs are good.

I'd love to go into spontaneous labour before my elcs. Any suggestions as to how I can help this along would be great. Thanks...

Do you have a yoga ball? I would get bouncing, I'm pretty sure that helped me on my way! Good luck.

Lots of walking is meant to help things along.

Nipple stimulation?
Sex?

A midwife once told me that oral sex (you to him) got things moving, apparently African tribes folk do it and collect it in cups (do you have a green one at the side of the bed?) from the men in the tribe for the unfortunate lady to drink!!!

There's some essential oils that bring on labour... Get in touch with somebody qualified on this who should advise

Can I ask why you are having a c section if you don't want one? As far as I understand if they are for medical reasons then you'd need to have an emergency section if labour does start.... I'm confused Confused...

You don't have to have anything that you don't want.....

Thanks ladies. I'm booked in for an elcs because my 1st labour ended up in an emcs. I went into spontaneous labour with DC2 and had a VBAC so if I can get labour going, I have a very good chance of another VBAC.

I've been walking and circling on my yoga ball. Bentleybelly do I need to lean forward when I bounce on it or is any kind of bouncing ok?

I've had a lot of cramping low down in my pelvis so I can't entertain the idea of sex (even though I should probably pop 2 paracetamol and get on with it!). Ditto for oral sex but I'll look into essential oils.

Thanks for your advice.

You don't have to have ELCS just because it's booked for tomorrow. Your body is clearly getting ready for labour and you just need to give it some time!

Good luck! Thanks

Cancel the section and have another attempt at VBAC. You've proved that you can deliver vaginally your dr should be supporting you get what you want..... Were you pressured into booking a date?

Thanks ladies. I'm awake now still not happy with having the cs today so I'm going to see if I can cancel it. I think I just need another day or two.

Don't rush into anything you don't want to do!

I was you on Sat - DC3, one section and one VBAC behind me. 40+10 and planned a homebirth. Had a sweep Sat AM and cramps/pains all day that tailed off in the afternoon. Took a long walk and a hot bath - DD was born the next day!

Give yourself time and don't let them force you if baby is otherwise fine. Good luck!

Update: After spending practically the whole night either on my gym ball or doing squats my contractions started at 6.30am. I went to the hospital as planned to check in for my cs but told them I suspected labour had started. It all happened very quickly and with very little effort in my part I gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl just before 10am. We're both doing really well and I'm delighted!

Thanks again for your support ladies.
