One month post-birth, thought I should finally man up and investigate inside -essentially, i wanted to check i wasn't a bucket - thought worse case scenario it will feel the same but 'bigger'. How wrong was i...

Ok, so whereas it used to be an opening and then a basically straight up and down tube essentially, it's now got a pretty cavernous opening, which is the least of my worries as venture further up and it's like my vaginal walls have collapsed in on themselves! Whereas once you could basically - should the mood take - put a finger straight 'up', you now get a couple of cm, the have to 'backwards'/ navigate around block of what feels like muscly dead end / vaginal wall fallen in, then another couple of cm, then navigate another dead end that you have to go around the other way!

Difficult to explain, but if you imagine it used to be straight up like an 'l', it's now a zig zag like a 'Z' shape up there! I had to really wriggle and bend my finger to get anywhere - HOW THE HELL is DH ever to get his member up there?!

Is this normal?! Will I ever DTD again?!!! :(

Oh bless you! I obviously can't comment specifically on your bits, everybody's are different I should imagine! But I found that everything does sort of change shape a bit after birth. It's also not that long since your birth, if you're worried, ask the gp to check when you go for your 6 week check Smile

One month post birth you are still recovering. Make sure to mention is at your six week check. Before you gave birth and could put a finger in it I bet you thought, "How the fuck is a baby getting out there"?
And it did! Try to relax but do mention it to GP to put your mind at rest.

it does take a while for things to haul themselves back into position after childbirth, and if you are breastfeeding, that slows the process down. get your gp to look at your six week check, tell him/her you are concerned about it so they'll check properly that everything's okay

Just don't say what I said when the GP asked if I wanted her to have a look. "Ooo, do you mind?" I said. "Er, well it is my job" Hmm she said BlushBlushBlush

It does take time, although what you describe doesn't sound abnormal but if it's different for you, ask the doctor to look/ feel.
My gynae physio said it can take 2 years to get back to 'normal'.

Do them pelvic floor moves.

I am informed I'm as tight as our first time [preen]

NomNomingiaDePlum I got told that breastfeeding speeded up the healing, not slowed it down

well if its any consolation im 15 years on and things still are definitely not as they were - however when i mentioned this at my last GP appointment she assured me all is fine.

i think its just one of those things after childbirth.

i kinda wish id had CSs sometimes.

Whoops, iPhone and fat fingers don't mix.... I was convinced I had a prolapse but 17 months later everything is fine. Like others have said it takes a while for everything to bounce back!

Try not to worry. Change isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I'm back to normal now but I remember getting my coil fitted 8wks after birth and my walls kept collapsing also Blush

Apparently it's very common. 1mth on is nothing, do pelvic floor and you may not be quite the same but you will return to normal, whatever that is

I had the same thing after birth of ds1. I went to the GP who told me to wait until at least 3 months post-birth for things to settle down - until then everything is still changing. It stayed the same, so she referred me to a gynae physio at the hospital who assessed it as a prolapse. Apparently they're very common post-birth, especially if you've had a forceps/ventouse birth, but most women don't bother getting them diagnosed. They can be rectal (ie, the back wall) or vaginal (ie, the front wall) or both, and mean the walls of your cervix lean in. Yours might be something completely different but if that is what it is it sounds like yours would be assessed as mild, like mine. Anyway, the best way to fix it is pelvic floor exercises as much as you can. And to reassure you, it makes absolutely no difference to my life and my dh has never had any problem negotiating whatever state it's in down there, and in fact says he can't even feel any difference!

Breast feeding speeds UP the healing as it causes the uterus to contract back to its pre baby shape and size.
