Just had a sweep - is this normal?

Iwas due yesterday and my midwife just did a stretch and sweep.

Anyway just been to the loo and there was some bright red blood in my underwear and as soon as I sat down a large blob of wat I am assuming was my mucous plug literally plopped into the loo. She told me that some bleeding is normal but that it will be stringy. Hard to tell if it was stringy from wat was in my underwear - does this sound normal after a sweep?

It sounds like your show. Hopefully things will start moving soon.

Yes, sounds like things will hapen soon - though it could well still be a while off.

Though, to give you hope, when having dd i had a sweep at 4.30, went to pick up ds at his granddads and started having regular contractions at 5.30 - dd was born at 12.55am the following morning!

I've been getting small contractions since 5:00 last night but they aren't very regular or painful so thought they were just more BH but midwife said they sounded like the real deal. When she did the sweep she said she could feel his head too and seemed hopeful it will happen in the next few days! Really hope so, I'm only a day over my due date but I've been off work over 3 weeks so very bored : )

Nah! The contractions were getting stronger last but very random and had terrible backache but then the contractions seemed to stop for most of the night (backache stayed tho). Since I've been up this morning the contractions have started again but again very random and less painful than yesterday. I'm gonna go for a walk later and see if I can get things moving along again!

Hayesgirl this sounds exactly like what happened to me, so don't worry. You can also get the show/bloody show in more than one part, so you may get some more (but call midwife if so). I had my sweep on a Tuesday afternoon, contractions sort of came and went for 24 hours, then early labour proper, then DD was born on the Thurs afternoon. Good luck.
