Can hospital refuse to induce you when overdue with severe pain....? Anyone pushed for induction?

I have developed excruciating spd/pgp since babies head has engaged.

Its stopped me from sleeping, painkillers including co-coda mol don't touch it.

I'm struggling with moving about but I'm also near passing out when peeing, pressure and pain is too much. I've stopped drinking so much as I dread trying to pee and probably not emptying properly. I know this is wrong and i should be keeping hydrated but i literally need to pee with and every 5 mins....Trying to figure out if my lower back pain is pre labour sign, pelvic related or kidney infection

I'm 40+3 lost plug, had lots of show already and had sweep yesterday. Babys head is 2/5 engaged and 1cm dilated yesterday. I'm not sleeping and this pain is unbearable now :( I've tried keeping going but I can't anymore.

Anyone tried insisting on an induction before to get things going? can they refuse?

Id guess they can refuse (however i dont know!)

In our pregnancy stuff it clearly says that unless medically necessary they will NOT induce until 40+14

I suppose it would be medically necessary though as you are refusing to keep yourself hydrated properly and running the risk of dehydration.

Adding to that the fact the pain could compromise your ability to birth naturally?

just re-read

any chance you could have a UTI as well? Sad
I hope not but perhaps worth ruling out.

Hi nanny I think I may have one swell on top of this all.
I'm a right sorry state! Been drinking more but this of course means weeing more which means I have been in shocking pain!

got consultant appointment first thing to assess if I really am in pain!!! Then will take decision to induce me from there. I don't see me leaving until they say yes nod it then. The fact I could barely talk on phone kind of got point across but then I broke own and hubby had to talk to them. Embarrassing and very pathetic but couldn't stop myself!

Speaking with hospital it is a Case by case thing although they did try and say outright no at first.

Managed 30 mins sleep but pain is at it's worst it's been now so no chance. There is so much crap on tv this time of night :/

You poor thing- really hope your baby hurries up so you can get some sleep/ wee in peace. I'm sure you could push for induction if your in that much pain - just don't take no or an answer. Drinking and weeing are pretty important things to do, so if its stopping you doing that then its not going to be good for you or baby.

I've had spd for a while now, (good thing we're practised at not getting enough sleep...) but babies due today (come on baby!) and i do feel like someone has been smashing my pubic bone with a large hammer. I'm hoping this means she's engaged... will check with the midwife today.

Good luck!

I did - my consultant didn't really want to do it but I was in agony. I was 39 weeks too.

I don't want to alarm you and I don't know if this is your first (so apols if this is old news) but after giving birth your pain might not get better immediately - mine got worse and I couldn't walk at all five days afterwards. It did get better again but got worse before it got better iyswim.

Hi! Well it is case by case and I've been booked in for the morning due to level of pain and problems with passing urine. Had another sweep in there too just in case set me off. He was a hefty chap in comparison to the dinky midwife I had do my first one! He said was still 1cm....however....his fingers were 2 of hers! Lol!

Good luck. I was 4cm dilated when I went in finally (although I had polyhydramnios which I think caused a huge dam situation)

Hope you get your induction x

Induction booked for first thing in the morning. I'm so shattered from lack of sleep I'm a little worried about where will find the energy. I can't sleep as the pain is bad, in fact worse!

They weren't too happy but looking t me they realised how much pain I was in....still had to remind them when examining me as he went to wrench my legs apart. I wanted to punch him at one point but he was only doing his job...
