Apologies for using this forum in this way again but it's voting day in The
Peoples Jubilee Millions for Parents 1st.
Today the project will be appearing on TV(ITV London news 6 - 6.30pm)
and in the press as we're one of six projects up for The Jubilee Peoples
Millions and we could win £60k to roll the project into another area of
Basildon.
Basically the project recruits and trains local women to act as "birth buddies"
- birth companions/doulas to other local and very vulnerable women & couples who otherwise could be starting out as parents feeling isolated and alone. We also have "pregnancy pals" who work in group settings - antenatal classes, fitness classes and within children's centres providing a listening ear, emotional
support and signposting to other services.
It's a project which helps vulnerable expectant parents, whilst at the same time
building the skills, confidence and self-esteem of local woman who often start
of defining themselves as "just a mum" and not realising what skills and
experience they have.
