AIBU to want an elective C-S...?

Pregnancy number three.
DS2 (now 3.5 yrs) was breech so I had an elective c-s. The nicest way to have a baby to date (admittedly quite limited experience Wink).
With DS1 (now 6) I had a third degree tear, which was fixed pretty well. But following his birth I have had persistent problems with an anal fissure (pre-existing but now worse than ever - took 10 weeks to heal properly after DS1 and reopened despite the c-s after DS2, opens intermittently Sad) and a manageable and probably ineveitable small amount of stress incontinence.

My preference would now be to have an elective c-section this time around, but am already feeling a little resistance from the consultants at the hospital and feel there might be further presure to try for a VBAC.

Would I be being unreasonable to keep stating my preference and to stick to my guns...?? Would be interested to hear the experiences of others with a preference of an elective C-S.

(Oh and I am also in the moderate-severe persistant asthma bracket, and the thought now of waiting for a 'normal' labour makes me feel a teensy bit terrified...just to chuck those onto the list too...) MPD

There are quite a few threads about birth following a 3rd degree tear at the moment. I think most people are advised that any continuing problems after a tear mean that you are likely to have a bad outcome if you have a VB again. Iin your shoes I would definitely want an ELCS and I would be really surprised if you were refused this given your continuing problems.

Nobody is ever unreasonable to choose how they want to give birth. I think you should get an ELCS if it will give you peace of mind. Just make sure you read up on the procedure and possible risks to ensure there are no nasty surprisesSmile
Personally? I'd nevet risk getting an anal fissure or anything like that a second time!
All the best & congratulationsSmile

you sound just like me! First child, 3rd degree, followed by anal fissure, about 10 months of the continous healing/re-opening cycle Sad It was awful. 2nd child I fought for an ELCS and got one, much better. Had piles but the fissure has now thankfully gone. I am due with number 3 and another ELCS due in the 5th August. Scared of the whole proceedure but the healing time was so much quicker.

Stick to your guns.Like you I have had a little bit of Blush ahem leakage (TMI) and am not prepared to risk my backside and my future happiness. Neither should you. Good luck x
