Anxiety - Is it OK ...?

Is it OK that

  • the bedclothes touched my mouth
  • that my hand touched Dad's coat
  • that my hair brushed Dad's coat then went in my mouth
  • that I use the hand I used to turn off the tap to open my crisp packet
  • that the tissue box touched the lip of the mug
  • that my hands that are on the bedcovers are used to put my retainers in
  • that I touched the remote control and then my phone and then my hair

etc
etc
etc
etc

My 16yo.

Exhausting.

Normally first thing (10am) and then only a bit in the day increasing from ~4pm. All day yesterday as she was more tired than usual.

We are getting help. Just releasing stress.

The current guidance on covid must send OCD people into a panic. It sounds stressful. Glad you're getting help.

It's covid that sent her over the edge.
It was developing a little but before but then WHAM.
...and relax...

It's awful. I teach and in school we're not allowed to hand out things like pens, work sheets unless they have been quarantined. Always reminding them about not touching stuff. Honestly I'm not surprised it's had an impact. School is not a relaxing environment for young people & there's nothing to do at the moment outside of school. I feel so sorry for young people. I just hope the vaccine & the new regular testing works & we can have some semblance of normality.

She's y11, and hasn't made it back to school.

It is so hard to say there is nothing to worry about, especially when we are outside. Hopefully the next few months will help and she can make it to college.

Sad It’s so worrying to deal with. My DD is much younger but going through similar , really ramped up during most recent lockdown.
She’s much worse in the evening and going to sleep is drawn out constantly checking, very similar.
She’s just started counselling through school. I’ve also stopped answering her
“ is it OK?” questions directly as it only reassures her for seconds then she’s worrying about something else/ the same thing. Instead trying distraction/ reassuring her “you’re safe” “I love you” etc. No idea if that’s the right thing, but felt like engaging directly with it wasn’t helping.
I hope your daughter can get the right support and back to college.
