DD (13) with health anxiety

My DD has developed a health anxiety problem over the last few months. It started in the summer holidays when she told me she thought there was something really wrong with her, she was getting breathless/couldn’t breathe. She seemed ok but since getting shingles a couple of weeks ago she is going rapidly downhill. Complaining of pain all over her body, a sore foot, worried she had cervical cancer etc etc. This evening she has been in a state of panic, shaking, shallow breathing. I took her to the gp last week who said a referral to camhs would take forever and recommended I find a counsellor/cbt practitioner privately. I’ve also emailed the school counsellor. How do I find a reputable practitioner who specialises in teenagers. I also suffer from health anxiety, although my DD doesn’t know that, and I feel terrified that she is suffering the same thing at such a young age. Any advice?

I haven't got any real advice re health anxiety but couldn't read and run. My own DD14 is suffering with anxiety and depression and have just sought a private counsellor after having had not the most positive experience with CAMHS. I empathise with you, it's so hard to see your children struggle. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable re health anxiety will be along soon.

Thanks. DD is complaining of stomach pains, it seems to vary in both location and type of pain, but I’m sure it’s anxiety related. Does anyone else have this?

Sorry you find yourself in this situation. It's so difficult to handle on your own and you don't want to say the wrong thing.
We went through something similar and found Oxford CBT. DD visits therapist frequently but they also have a Skype option which they use for non UK families and for social anxiety which we've recommended a family friend.
Wishing you the best!
