Child mental health

Trying to find help for my child not getting any where...

I've posted about my dc Cynophobia (dog phobia) before and got some good advice.

I've now seen school nursing team, GP and contacted local Pets as therapy charity.

All have great advice but without a camh's referral can't do anything. Camhs is obviously hugely stretched with serious cases and GP told us inadvertently it would be a hugely long wait.

So I'm now at the stage where I'm seeking private counselling but despite searches locally I can't seem to find one who deals with children younger than 14.

Where do I go to find help? I feel so helpless and hate watching the amount of stress my dc is under.

Sorry, not clear at all.
What I meant to say is that the advice given is good but not helping and my dc needs proper cbt.

Bumping for you.
I used to be bloody terrified of snakes. I actually started by looking at pictures and then TV programmes before going to the zoo etc to see them. I actually held one in the summer.
Dogs must be so hard. Difficult to completely avoid. She's a bit old for a book and a cuddly toy version.

Thanks for replying and bump.

It is incredibly hard just to find support as charities and NHS are crippled and understandably my dc's issue is not considered serious enough.

I think cbt would help no end and I'm saving up for some but just can't find one who treats primary school age phobias.

Who can I ask if not NHS? I was hugely naive about how hard this would be.

OP try young minds, they have a parents support line and there is lots of advice on their websites. Good luck. The state of mental health services, especially for young people, is really shocking.

Thank you Valar will try them.

Yes, I had no idea of the state of young people's mh services. It's awful. Mental health needs the same level of importance as physical imho.
