Hi - Anyone had experience of applying for an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) for a child with long-term mental health issues?
My teenage son doesn't go to school at the moment because of PTSD, anxiety & depression. At his latest school review meeting it was suggested we apply for an EHCP & specify home tuition via the school.
But two things: I have an underlying concern that mental health issues won't be considered long term enough for an EHCP. And although it is supposed to be "person centred" DS doesn't want to engage with the process at all. He says he just wants to go back to school when he is better, whenever that is, into ordinary classes. The school, home tuition service and us parents think he will do better in smaller groups or 1:1 to help him overcome his anxiety about school.
Anyone else been down this route?
