Chicken keepers

Does this coop look safe?

Thinking about chickens, but can't afford an eglu. We have an unused paved area right beside the conservatory. So the back of the run and one side of the run would be up against the house. Then, if we put easybed bedding down, and get a tree surgeon to donate us his chippings for the floor, and put this in www.cagesworld.co.uk/p/Winchester_Chicken_Coop_with_Run.htm?product_id=783755. Then get the skirted fox proof things and surround all sides with the skirting and perhaps even put hardcore on the skirting - would that be fox proof enough? We are in a village about 4 mile from a city.

we have a similar one and had it standing on the patio, and it was fine. We didn't have fox skirting either. The weight of the coop means the fox can't lift it to get under it, and it can't dig under due to the patio.

The only thing is that we have 3 big fat chickens and it was too small. We ended up moving it down the garden and putting a much bigger run round it with fox skirting etc.

Thanks. We will have just two small Pekin bantams if we do go for chickens. I am thinking if I should bite the bullet and bid on an eglu on eBay....

it would be plenty big enough for 2 bantams and it is a good coop.

(warning ; you won't stop at 2 Grin

Sorry I disagree about space - the coop itself is fine but the inbuilt run underneath is tiny - it's recommended each chicken (even a bantam) should have at least 2m square of run space. This run is 1.2m x 0.5m - so not even enough space for 1 chicken.

unless you plan to let them spend nearly all their time free-ranging, it's really not fair without a much bigger run.
