Car seats

Narrow/slim car seat recommendations

Our grandchildren are aged 7 and 6 and now that the car seat backs need to be raised there's no room for a middle passenger. Our daughter is a single parent and we frequently travel in one car for day trips and holidays. Ideally we would like to be able to fit in 2 car seats in the back seat and still be able to fit a passenger between them. Fortunately our daughter is very slim and the children are on the smaller side , but it may still be an issue. The problem is around the head room for the middle passenger.

Can anyone recommend a car seat that is narrow enough to achieve what we want? The car is a VW Tiguan and the current car seats are Kiddy Guardianfix. My daughter is keeping the car seats she has for her car, but looks like we need something slimmer for our cars. Thanks.

Britax Adventure is about the slimmest one out there.

Thanks for replying. Funnily enough we bought the Britax Discovery yesterday. I think the Adventure was slightly narrower, but the Discovery will anchor to the isofix, so we went with that instead. I will report back on whether it works, just in case someone else has the same issue.

Have a look at the Rivemove isofix extender incarsafetycentre.co.uk/rivemove

I wouldn't recommend the Rivemove, it pushes the car seat forwards which creates a big gap between the high backed booster and the vehicle seat, they are not designed to fit like that and it can be unsafe.

It also reduces the distance between the child and the seat in front which is carefully calibrated to allow enough space for the child to move forwards a little if you crash without hitting their head on the front seat. If you reduce this gap there might not be enough room and a little girl in Spain did actually die from this happening a few months ago. They have stopped selling the Rivemove there in response but it's still on sale in the UK.

If you need to move a HBB closer to the door you can just not use the isofix, they are always optional in HBB seats using the seatbelt to restrain the child.

We had the Britax Adventure as we needed 3 across the back. It was the narrowest seat we could find with decent protection.

We've got the new car and the Britax Discovery seats are fitted. There is enough room for our daughter to sit comfortably. Probably wouldn't want to travel for more than a couple of hours or so, but it will save us from having to take two cars on holiday.

The Adventure looked even better but my husband wanted the isofix attachments, so we compromised.

Glad it's worked for you all :)

The Adventure and Discovery are the exact same seat just with/without isofix :) So I think you've got exactly what you wanted.
