Hi
Please can you help a worried mum out. My little girl who is 2 in October is able to unclip the buckle on her joie 360 spin car seat. Surely she shouldn't be able to do this Shock

Hmm, unfortunately it's quite a common thing! Especially since many car seats have changed to the design where you press down rather than pushing in, it seems to be much easier for them.

You can try sticking the rough side of a piece of velcro onto the button. They find it painful to press on so it should discourage her but you'll still be able to open it yourself.

If no joy with that you can buy a cover for the buckle from the in car safety centre:

incarsafetycentre.co.uk/buckle-cover

It's quite expensive though but cheaper than a new seat.

Some people have luck with normal discipline tactics - shouting or telling off, removal of a privilege etc but at age 1 she might be a bit little to understand or link a later punishment with opening her seat buckle.

Do you have a mirror so you can see her in the seat (if she's rear facing)? Distraction as soon as you see her do it can help although difficult if you're on your own with her.

My DD did this with this car seat for a while and I HATED it. I lost my shit with her on more than one occasion for doing it at really dangerous times (like on the M25). She eventually stopped doing it before I found a solution - not much help, sorry!

I have to say I tend to give DS2 (similar age) a really sticky cereal bar when we're in the car at the moment as it occupies him for ages. Or his brother goes in the back with him and can distract him or point things out of the window. Touch wood though he hasn't managed to undo the seat yet. I always loosen the harness before I unbuckle it so I feel like he thinks that's an "extra step" he doesn't know how to do :o

I asked exactly the same question a few weeks ago!! Scariest thing ever, isn't it?
I've explained to dd (3 in November) that she can only undo the buckle when the car stops, and tell her that the car won't work unless we've all got our seatbelts on. Or just resort to bribery, and promise her something she wants if she keeps it on. Seems to have done the trick and she seems to have got bored of undoing it whilst driving!
Not sure if that will work as your dd is a bit younger?

Very scary. Unfortunately she just doesnt understand :( it's only this car seat she can undo. Cant undo my friend 360 nor the one Nana car.

Try swapping it for Nana's seat for now? Then swap back in a few weeks - she may well have forgotten about it by then.
