Flying with car seats

I am looking for advice about bringing car seats with us to Spain. We have not booked flights yet.

DD1 is 6 years 10 months, 21kg. Currently FF in a Klippan Triofix Recline.

DD2 is 4 years 11 months, 17kg. Currently RF in a Cybex Sirona.

As far as I can see, neither of these car seats are approved for flying. We are not hiring a car but using my Dad's Spanish Ford Focus.

What is our best option? Thank you.

I would maybe buy a couple of cheap high back booster seats and put them in the hold

Or could your dad buy you a couple of seats compatible with his car (you could send him the cash)

Take the car seats; put them in the hold

I'm very pro rear facing but TBH in your case, I'd buy two high back boosters for your holiday. Or get them delivered to your dad in Spain so you only have to fly them one way.

A friend has suggested specific padded car seat travel bags and putting the current Klippan in the hold. DD2 needs a new car seat anyway as the Sirona only goes to 18kg.

Your seat looks expensive, I'm not sure I'd trust it to still be in one piece after a flight in the hold
