Car seats

should cars have 4 point isofix

was watching a crash test video for a britax FF seat the other day and i noticed that on all FF isofix seats the top always comes forward in a crash while the bottom stays put, wouldn't having 2 more isofix points at the top of the seat make it more rigid and stable at both ends to stop the child jolting forwards with the seat in a crash ? just a thought for future safety measures

Some forward facing ISOFIX seats have a top tether strap. This attaches to the top tether point in your car, typically it's found on the back of the car's rear seats or on the boot floor.

There needs to be some give in the seat as well though. It's the seat moving that absorbs some of the impact of the crash. Similar way to how a seatbelt stretches in a crash to a certain extent. If it was solid then it would do more damage. The extra tether points on carseats are there to prevent it rolling completely over IIRC

It's similar to how a regular seatbelt works in a way, they do allow some forward give to absorb some of the impact? I would imagine even the top tether has some give in it?

Ours has a top tether. It's not fancy or particularly new.

Isofix works as the seat clips to a bar that's part of the chassis of the car. I don't see how they could build an equivalent top bar into cars without making it so the rear seats couldn't fold down.
