Car seats

Is there any special way of disposing of used car seats?

We don't have a car, but have car seats for occasional use.

I have a big group 0+/1 seat that has just been grown out of. Is there any way I could donate it somewhere? Or should I just take it to the tip? Or can they be recycled at all. It is only used a handful of times per year, and is in good, clean condition, so it seems a shame to throw it out. But I know they don't last forever, and it is over 5 years old.

When we bought our latest car seat we were told there was no way of recycling them unfortunately.

How has it been stored? Is there anyone you know who could make use of it?

It has been stored in the garage wrapped up in plastic mainly.

I would happily give it away, but I don't know anyone who would need it. And I know you aren't supposed to use second hand seats anyway.

It seems a shame there isn't some sort of system of giving them a proper, certified safety check and then everyone would know they could be reused. But if there isn't I suppose I will just have to chuck it.

Local charity shop? Our independent one has loads of the little ones. I wouldn't buy one myself but would donate ours when we are done as I know they are safe (as in, haven't been in any accidents) and would tell charity shop this
