Advice on rear facing

We currently have a Britax newborn car seat for ds. We were going to get a ff group 1 when he outgrew it. We thought this would be around 9-12 months.

Anyway ds is now 9 weeks and is 18lb. The current seat limit is 28lb which ds will reach at 19 weeks going on current growth!

Anyway he will still be a bit young then to go in a ff so I've now started looking into rf. Both our cars are isofix so ideally we'd like that option as we move the seat between the cars alot.

What seat would you recommend and where can I buy them?

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure he is 18lb? That's over 8kg which for a 9 week old is way off the scale - over the 99.6th percentile. Even following that rate of growth though he won't be 12kg til around 9 months.

I can highly, highly, highly recommend the Besafe Izi Combi Isofix. Once you get the hang of how to move it, it's really quick to install and a lot less faff than sorting out seatbelts. It will last you until around 4-5 years old (the recommended time to keep your child rearfacing).

The customer service from Besafe is also excellent.

There is a great website rearfacing.co.uk which has lots of information.

Don't worry about how fast he is growing now - growth slows down after the first few months. Ensuring he is rearfacing for as long as possible is the best thing you can do for your child - rearfacing is 5 x safer than forward facing, regardless of age/weight/size.

Rubirosa that is the same thing I asked! It's right though, he's just gone into 6-9 month clothes. I asked the hv about it but she just said you can't overfeed a bf baby and that he'd level out. Confused

My worry is he won't level out in time so I want to make sure I've thoroughly researched so I don't have to make any rash decisions.

I shall look into the Besafe and that website, thank you worldgonecrazy

12kg/28lbs is over the 99.6th centile for a 9 month old too, so you still have some time!

He's putting on 1lb a week. I can see why it levels out when they become active but it will be a while before he's mobile.

I guess it won't hurt to research it anyway.

If LO is growing out of the infant carrier this quick is there really much point in getting an 18kg next seat. Might be out of it by 2 and then your stuck because that's not old enough for HBB! I would look into a 25kg ERF seat! Then it might be in use for longer!

His growth will probably level out before he becomes mobile, my ds was a v big baby and BF and his growth stopped slowed a lot between 5 months and 12 months. He is right on average now (at 3.5)

hi, my ds1 was a big baby like your ds. i got him a britax twe as that was the seat that would last the longest in terms of height and weight according to the in car safety centre. we moved it around all the different cars we needed but put a set of tether straps in each as this takes the longest time to do, strapping it in only takes a few minutes.

i would think about getting an isofix one as they only go up to 18kgs afaik and ds1 was 20kgs before he was 2! Shock but slowed way down as he's only 23kgs now at 4.7yrs.

good luck with seat shopping, it took me ages to decide.

:)

I have someone coming to the house this weekend to try different seats in our cars.

Which erf seats stay rf up to 25kg?

He's now 19lb6 at 10 weeks so no sign of slowing down yet!

Thank you onetwothreefourfive

I think we are going to go with the Axkid as it fits both our vehicles (just!) and the support leg clears the storage box on my car. Hopefully as it goes to 25kg it will be a good investment!

Now the really difficult decision, which colour?! Wink

It comes in black, grey, navy, green, red and purple.

We are going to go with the Kidzofix as then we can ISOfix it until 18kg then seatbelt fix it (still rearfacing) until 25kg.

Will get an extra set of tethers so it saves time switching it between the two vehicles.
