Campsite recommendations in the North West

...I have checked out the review section, but there aren't many for the North West so thought that I would ask here

We are novice campers (first outing, yikes) and don't want to go too far from home on our first trip. I have emailed a few sites via ukcampsite and am awaiting replies from them - I'm a little worried about getting a pitch for August now, but I can but try!

Can any recommend any campsites in the North West? We are family of 5 (dh, me and 3dd's 9, 6, 2). Probably won't take the dog on our first outing, not sure how we'd manage
Our only real requirement is a decent children's play area - obviously the more family-friendly the site is, the better

Thanks in advance

We loved Eskdale in the Western Lakes. Very chilled out site, great shop selling lovely sausages and bacon. The children's play area is tiny (maybe just a couple of swing iirc) but they do have a mahoosive trampoline that entertained the dds endlessly.

It's tents only and only 2 fields so is quite small and intimate.

Washrooms were spotless.

Stanwix Park in Silloth in Cumbria.

Lovely site with great facilities. We were there last week but unfortunately had to leave early as the weather was horrendous. All of the Lake District was the same though. Didn't see much of their outdoor pool

Have had replies from one already but that was to say no availability

Will keep trying - thanks for all your help

Did you get fixed up?

Not yet Anteater - I've had two replies (quiet site and stainforth) and they're both full.

I've emailed a million few others and only one has availability so far and when I read the reviews on it, it seems that the tents are pitched on slopes and a few people were complaining about the bad drainage and it flooding the tents. Tbh that's put me right off because it's our first outing and I think it may put us off camping altogether if we were flooded out ...

Will keep trying ...
