Craig Tara is okay, it is very very very busy and lots of Irish getting cheap flights to Prestwick, as well as lots of Scots of course.

It can be a bit loutish and used to have a terrible reputation with lots of fights etc when it was Butlins. It can be really difficult to get a seat in the entertainment areas during the school holidays though.

We were tempted by Haven until a lovely mner suggested this campsite to us and it looks fab. Has much much better reviews than the Haven ones.

On a positive note, Craig Tara is in a beautiful part of Ayrshire and there is lots to see in that area. Its in Rabbie Burns country and Heads of Ayr Farm just up the road is a great day out.

I should have added it is NOWHERE near as bad as when it was Butlins, they've really cleaned up their act since it became Haven.

Hi MumHadEnough-did you get Stanwix Park booked up? I am going to try and book a weekend in school hols.
Just returned from another fab site in the beautiful town of Berwick-it much smaller then Stanwix park and did not have swimming pools or evening entertainment but it did have a lovely playpark for kids, a lovely restaurant/bar on site, and was very well maintained with award winning loos and showers(I do like clean showers!)

Hi fificasey1-I have stayed at quite a few Havens but none in Scotland and the loos are definetly not as nice as Stanwix Park. Havens also get soooo busy where SP is much more relaxed with better facilities and the owners are not constantly trying to get your cash off you by waving plastic tat and lightup whatevers in your kids faces!!

Hi Gibba, yes I got it thank you so much. We're booked for a week from 25th July. Can't wait, now that I've had a big ALDI spending spree .

The woman did mention when I called that she only had a few pitches left. We seem to be right near the main road though, is it busy? We're kind of in between the toilets and the main block if you know what I mean.

Hi MHE-there are 2 camping areas and it sounds like you are in the area I was in because we were between the toilets and the main block and it was great-no noise from entertainment complex at all. We were on a pitch furthest from the road but it is not a busy road at all-just a small site road with few slow moving cars-kids riding up and down on their scooters went faster than any cars!
Let me know how you get on.
