Does anyone else hate sleeping bags ...

I seem to spend most of the night waking up to untwist myself from my sleeping bag ... do duvets work on airbeds. I am seriously going to have a tanty with my sleeping bag and stamp all over it one of these days!
Really tho ... has anyone used a duvet and if so does it work ???

We take duvets camping now. I know that many true campers will say this is really wussy but I cannot get on with sleeping bags.

I get so twisted up in them and I hate that encased sealed up feeling. Like a body bag. And I always end up lying in the zip.

I always had the same problem - til I bought this, which I used for the first time last week in Anglesey. It is huge - almost the size of a double one but just for me (heehee) and I can bring my knees up and sleep curled up on my side like I do in my bed. And it's got a lovely soft, flannelly lining. On the downside - when in its carry bag it is massive - dh had a few choice things to say about fitting it in the car (I don't care though - it's so lovely!)

I'm sure a duvet would be fine - so long as it was a really warm one - because you are not enclosed like you are in a sleeping bag. You'd need it to be big to keep out drafts too. And a fitted sheet on your airbed - but I do that anyway, seems to help with condensation.

The more I read on this camping topic the more convinced I become that people actually want to be comfortable when they go camping. What's that all about then?

I take sleeping bags but only for convenience. I end up only zipping it at the bottom and throwing it over me otherwise i wake up every time i need to turn over

But having said that, I am the same with nighties unless they are mahooosive

Sleeping bags rule. I defy anyone to be as snuggly buggly as me in my 3 season bag.

Bugs and cold ankles? Pah, I was cooking in the rain, outside, with an umbrella last week - and getting splattered every time rain went in the pan. That's hard core. So hard core that I have already ordered an 'extension' for our Monty - hoping it will come in time to try out next weekend.

Hiding in reeds and then ambushing a colony of ducks. Dispatching a duck with a tent peg, plucking the duck and creating new scatter cushions for your tent with the down. Gathering wood of a pleasant smell, digging a hole with your bare hands and creating your own homespun stone age humidified and scented oven to roast the duck in.

that is hard.

I've never done it, BUT BY GOD I never will if I sleep under a duvet.

Hate the 'mummy' sleeping bags where you can't move your feet. Been fine with the readybed cos when you turn over it stays where it is instead of turning with you. My sister uses duvets which work fine but she has no children so has plenty of room in the car for luxuries!

What softies, using an umbrella to cook in the rain. What's wrong with the hood of your cagoule, and rain dripping off the end of your nose? Actually the other week I was making tea in the pouring rain, in the pitch dark with a head-torch on, which was quite interesting .

I think we are shaping up here for a Mumsnet Camp Off...a camping get-together where we battle the elements, demonstrate our ability to quickly fashion a spit-roast out of two delta pegs and a spare length of flourescent guy-line, then wrestle a nearby sheep, skin and roast it on said spit (while creating a wholesome salad with mixed foliage foraged from nearby hedgerows) while at the same time drinking a yard of ale and demonstrating our 'escape from a tangled sleeping bag while blindfold and needing a pee' techniques.

Or alternatively drinking wine, giggling, and then sending the menfolk off for fish and chips because we can't be arsed to cook.

I have one of these and just use it unzipped over both me and OH and we have never been cold using it.

Mine however has Burberry style lining

I love our massive double sleeping bag, but have horrible memories of a single one - always always seemed to end up with the zip puller thingy up by my face and the rest of the zip cold and digging in somewhere.

Now I think about it, our sleeping bag is a king size

We weekend campers only. We now take a duvet but also a sleeping bag to put on top of the airbed (complete wusses) cos the airbed gets really cold otherwise.

We have the dilemma that our tent was distroyed in cornwell (£75.00) bad weather last year, however we have bought a pukka tent this year( this is us posh, rare). However, it is so pukka (cost £500) we are scared of ruining it. Plus it will take 2 hours to put up...(I normally put the tent up as it is quicker). Camping good or bad depends on weather...espesh as nasty weather in july and aug.

I HATE sleeping bags too

the only night i slept in one was when it was REALLY cold!

my bed from ground up is

blanket
foam roll
no slip matt stuff
airbed
fleece throw
sheet
ME with think fleece PJs and bed socks
duvet
fleece throw
open sleeping bag on top

Even when its warm *ie last weekendm i use all of that to stay warm, but i cant bear being contianed in a sleeping bag

(I also would freeze if i only had an air bed and sleeping bag!)

OMG I can't believe you lot. I do self infdlating matress, fitted sheet and duvets/feather pillows. If I get cold I do put a nightie on and thats it.
