Camping

Haven..Should there be some standards for a site to allow camping?

had booked (without looking at reviews!!) a Haven campsite in Yorkshire for us and our three young kids (after all Haven is for the kids!!) now on closer inspection of reviews:
Cliff Top position , with lovely views but NO perimeter fence on cliff edge
Camping field (with no allocated pitching cars driving around haphazard, crowded pitches...safety hazard?)
Toilets blocked overflowing and showers filthy
Waterlogged, muddy pitches (I suppose this can't be helped due to weather)
Am I being precious or should a company be allowed to take money for facilities like this, surely they should be inspected by someone and stopped !!
(have re booked on a 'normal' campsite but cannot get a refund as they haven't broken their terms & conditions )

I saw that review too paddling. What a pain that you can't get a refund. Where are you going now? Are you going this weekend? I am desperate to get away before I go back to school on the 1st but if it carries on raining then there's not much point

Off to sunny Whitby instead on a standard campsite...Haven have transfered the money over for another 'holiday' but this has to be used this year so .....

Sorry should explain that I too have cancelled a holiday with Haven probably at same campsite as I had an email advising that the weather was bad and the site was waterlogged..having read the reviews was kind of glad[ smile]
Struggled to get in anywhere though..just one pitch left from those I rang in the same area
