I am due to have 4 days in a tent with dd(10). Have never really done camping before so am a bit clueless about the kit.
I think there will be a water supply/toilets, but other than that we need to be fairly self sufficient. Other than tent/sleeping bags, what would you say are the bare essntials? (without spending a fortune)

Chairs.
Food-if we're going for a bank holiday w/e, we cook 2 meals like spag bol, curry, stew, freeze them, then when we're off stick em in a coolbox with all our cool stuff & ice packs, so that when we come to needing them, they've started to defrost & ready to heat up-sorry if I sound like I'm teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs!!
Table
Water container.
Pillows!
Matches or lighter for cooker.
Torches or and lamps.

do a search for camping lists - if you're especially unlucky you may well find mine, the same list can double up as 'colonising the New World' list.

tis long

I won't go camping without an airbed. Makes everything so much better.
You can get em cheap in supermarkets.

Agree with more clothes than you think your wwill need.

Especially hoodies, fleeces etc.
A hat!!

And lots of socks to sleep in!!

Oh, me and the kids sleep in thick sweats, t shirt, sweatshirt, and socks.

Drinkboxes..

clothespegs...

yes on the airbed, and an extra insulating thingy or an extra blanket. The air gets REALLY cold in those things.

Doh - have ended up with two threads here somehow.

So here's what I have just put on the other one:

OK thanks for these replies - very useful. Won't need to worry about the activity side of things as this is going to be my solution for cheap accommodation while we are away at a show. DD will have many responsibilities to keep her busy during waking hours!

I had planned to use a couple of canvas camp bed type things that we have already, but everyone seem to suggest airbeds. Are they much better?

Not better no but take up much less space in the car and are lighter.

Peachy · 17/04/2008 17:21

we like the canvas beds though (just to confuse you lol)

I don't personally use the canvas beds cos I've got quite a big arse and I find them difficult to turn over in, but they are quite comfy for the smaller of arse

yep, the kids have them but not me lol....
