seat belts in camper vans

I was hoping that I might be able to pick someone's brains. Have got a C reg camper with lap belts in the back and three point seat belt in passenger and driver only. Not great for car seats and I want to get a chance to sit at the front! Someone told me about a fixing or something to attach to front seat belts to make three point belts at the back (seats at back face inwards.) Does anyone know what these are and what they are called? Sorry that I am v vague! Thanks!

Sorry can't help on this one, but we had the same problem in a rented 1970s VW camper van. I carefully checked the rear bench seat had a 3 point belt so I could put 8 month old DD on this seat, only to find the seat belts just weren't long enough on any of the seats to fit round the car seat. Ended up with me and DD following the camper in a convoy with our normal car - not really what we intended to happen for the weekend away!

Would be interested to know if there was a way around these problems?

Oh MadLabOwner, what a royal pain! Hope the weekend away was a good one to make up for it. Hopefully soneone will pop up with a great idea of how to get round the seat belt dilemma!

Thanks clutteredup. I was thinking of trying that for ds's seat with it's own seat belts. DD is in a booster so maybe I will just have to put up with being in the back and worry about how to work two boosters in a couple of years!

I am about to do the same thing this weekend to Big Chill and am panicking that the car seat won't fit. My DB is saying don't worry he'll use rope to tie it in if necessary, but i am not convinced that's a particularly safe option.

in fact, i know the car seat won't fit because it's a lap seatbelt, so the seat will just ping forward.

any advice?

we have three point inertia belts fitted in our vw campervan (1971). Sometimes there are already mounts for the belts to be fitted onto but if not a new plate is welded on. There are many places, that will do this job for you, think we paid around £120 to have two belts fitted, including the belts, although it can be done yourself.

boozybird, enjoy The Big Chill! Wish I was going ! Spoke to a lady who suggested a company www.justkampers.co.uk. If you get their number from the website they might be able to suggest stockists. If you have any luck let us know.

There are car seats that can be installed for those under four ish with lapbelts - mothercare definatley do one and we have maxicosi seats in our Toyota Townace - also has lapbelts.

We have been using booster seats with lapbelts, is this illegal? Had the other seats safety checked but not the boosters.
