Hi can anyone help?! My husband and I would love to take our boys camping but are unsure of what tent to buy!
We are going to the Isle of Skye and staying in a cottage but we then wanted to go over to Lewis and Harris and camp a night here and there over the islands but we are clueless on what tent to go for.
We don’t want to pay over the top prices, don’t want one that is overly big and lastly one that is easy to put up as we are new to camping!
Any help would be much appreciated Smile

Thank you in advance

With the islands wind and rain is a factor so make sure it's suitable for putting up and staying up in sustained wind (very cheap ones aren't). You need to consider if weight is a factor - do you need to carry it far? And do you want two separate sleeping areas? For around £100 you can buy 2 bedroom tents that will do for occasional use but keen campers would probably want something a bit more durable. We have a Vango 3 man, a Tesco family tent and an Armadillo 4 man mountain tent depending on conditions expected (the Tesco one was bought super cheap for festivals).

Halfords, Go Outdoors, larger Blacks etc have tents.

As above wind could be an issue.
I would even suggest it might not be the best spot for a first trip.
Best to read online reviews before you buy.
You mention budget its all to easy to spend a lot
Tent
Hammer
Sleeping bags
Sleeping mats
Stove and all that stuff soon mounts up, so do some sums as a B&B might be easier and cheaper, have you considered the Migies?

Haha yes I’ve considered the midges but we tent to get more down here rather than to north!!
I would go about 150 for the tent, I just don’t know what brand to buy?
Bed and breakfasts in Harris and Lewis are really expensive and availability is a problem plus I wanted to start taking my kids camping locally on weekends we have off over the summer hols.Smile
The one I have my eye on is a waterproof 4000mm on mountain warehouse website , it’s 200 but doing an extra 20 percent off so I could get it for 167. Don’t know if this is a good buy but seems like it?

This tent is currently £204 with the extra 15% 0ff offer, and would be very good. www.millets.co.uk/tents-camping/041658-outwell-albany-500-family-tent-green.html

It is a good brand, should not be hard to put up, has enough space to sit inside if it rains. Not sue which tent you were looking at on Mountain Warehouse?

You quickly tire of a tent you can't stand up in, you need a fully sewn in groundsheet (IMO) and this tent has the option of using the side door which is good in rain because the sloping front doors let rain in when you open them.

Vango, Outwell, Kampa , Berghaus (Blacks and Millets) and Hi Gear (GoOutdoors) are good brands.,

Thank you so much HotpotLawyer 😊.
This info has been very valuable , I’ll look through and find something from one of those brands you mentioned.
