Do you wash your sleeping bags?

I do so very rarely. We will be back from 2 weeks in France tomorrow and I think the kids' bags could do with a wash! I usually put on Low temp with very little detergent and then into the dryer with a few tennis balls to plump them up. Does this sound about right?

I dry on the line but yes I wash sleeping bags. It's no different from washing bedding the rest of the year round.

Depends what they are stuffed with ; most come with washing instructions though.

If they are stuffed with duck or goose down for example, best to wash gently with small amount of soap flakes (not detergent) and dry as you have described.

I'd definitely wash them after two weeks of constant use! If we're only using them occasionally, eg like this year when they'll only be doing a couple of festivals, then I save it up until the end of the season and put them away clean and aired ready for the inevitable student on a sofa over the Christmas holidays.

Thanks all. I guess before this trip we have camped 11 nights this year and a further 10 to go before the end of the holidays so yes they could do with a wash!

I have to admit to a level of scuzziness here.

Ours are not washed regularly and I feel they don’t perform as well when often washed. When I have washed them I have treated them as duvets; gentle quick wash, tumble dried, in the big launderette machines.

I make everyone shower in tne evening and we wipe our feet with baby wipes before getting into our sleeping bags. But mine hasn’t been washed in a couple of years Blush

It doesn’t smell.

No I don’t but I use a liner. In our big double bag for car camping I use a duvet cover. I cut the stitching away on the first two feet at the sides and hemmed it and then sewed the buttons onto the top of the sleeping bag so that the duvet cover buttons on, imagine a bottom sheet being buttoned onto the mattress.

Not sure if that description makes sense 😂.

Mummy bags always get a proper liner in them.

Liners/duvet cover gets washed. Bags get aired outside when we get home. Technical bags don’t do well being washed imo and the big ones are too big for my machine.

Every day. It's disgusting otherwise.

I usually wash ours at the end of our camping season although i did wash them recently after a week away as it was so hot. I'll probably wash again in october/November time when i bring them in from the van.

I have to add our bags are mostly ancient Grin so cool wash and then out on the line.
I keep considering new ones but these work perfectly fine for what we need
