Alternatives to Eurocamp

We are considering a holiday on a French campsite next year for the first time, and while Eurocamp seems to tick many of our boxes, I would like to consider alternatives too.
DCs will be 10 and 6 so we would like to have access to the amenities that are on offer at many Eurocamp locations such as pools/waterslides/activities/beach access/town access. Can anyone offer advice or experience of French campsites? TIA

Canvas holidays seemed to be v similar when we were in dordogne last year...I also think there was a company called 'flower camping' or similar...if you know where you want to go you can always try to the site direct but then you have to sort ferries etc. fwiw have been using euro camp for 10 years and happy to do so again....

We seen a site we liked with canvas, but then booked directly with the site. It saved us hundreds of pounds. It was for 11 nights during school holidays. With Canvas it was around ??1600 excluding ferry. Booking with the site direct and booking our own ferries, we got it all for ??1100.

On personal experience, I will definitely use this method again. We had no problems whatsoever.

We have gone with canvas for the last few years and really couldn't recommend them enough :)

We were in the dordogne last year too Hetty. And this year too as it happens

A friend booked a holiday site on their French website rather than their English one - they saved hundreds. My advice is to track down a fluent-ish speaker to help you find a place.

You will be able to access all the sites facilities if you book direct except any eurocamp etc run kids club or other activity only you know if or how much you will use it and In any case they only run in high season, also you won't have a rep on site but again I've always found site owners to be pretty good if you have any issues any way.
Also eurocamp usually price the holidays in £ and also include basic crossings so are usually more expensive than booking direct.

I would have thought that at the minute it would be cheaper booking direct as you would pay in euros rather than pounds?
We always book everything direct with the sites, ferry companies etc, though don't require the use of kids clubs as my two clingy children wouldn't go off and use them anyway

Book directly with the site. Castels group are very good with a range of sites.

We booked directly with Les Castels. Cheaper than going with uk companies and usually mixed in with other nationalities which is better than being surrounded by brits

Thanks, everyone. The advice to book directly with the site was good as it was definitely miles cheaper. However, the site would often say they had no availability for our dates (understandably as it was August) but the travel companies did. So we ended up using two separate companies (2 campsites, 2 locations) which were considerably cheaper than Eurocamp - Canvas and Camping Seldction.
So we are looking forward to our first experience at a French campsite although we are not camping but renting a caravan/mobile.
