We booked a campsite ages ago (feb I think) in Austria. It looks like it will rain there the whole 2 weeks we will be there (we leave this sunday!!).
So now i am irgently looking for an alyernative somewhere sunny. France or italy. Any suggestions about how to go about it?
Any recommendations? 3 dc 7-5-2

We are near Biscarosse in France at the moment and it is lovely here at the moment. We had booked a site but didn't like it and have moved. Found a lovely site with free pitches quite easily just by driving around a bit. So you could try taking a risk and just head for somewhere you like and pitch up there. That may be safer in France than Italy of course.

I would certainly recommend where we are btw. By a lake close to the Atlantic Coast.

Frozen. Tell me where you are! Sounds nice. I quite like the idea of risk.

We are at a site called L'arbre d'or in Parentis en born. It has a pool area and plenty of shady pitches. Also a bar and restaurant and is close to the lake. Very French and family friendly. DD has made a group of friends here and is having a ball. There are three or four other sites nearby too. Avoid the Yelloh one though. Fabulous pool area and all new and lovely, but not a drop of shade anywhere.

Hey fab. Maybe see you tomorrow. Weather still good with occasional showers, nights only so far.

Frozen - is the lake walking distance from the campsite. We have reserved a spot but are hesitating between this one (spot in the shade) or another one that has amazing review but only has a spot in the sun... The lake could swing it...

Yes it is. Just down the road. Some shade is important here I think although if the other site is amazing it might be worth chancing the sun. This one is lovely but no water slides or kids club for example, although there are some activities announced by occasional tannoy.

Mind you, on reflection it isn't as warm now as it has been recently. We are sitting in jumpers for the first time in a week for example. I still wouldn't want to camp in full sun but if you have a decent tarp or awning it might be ok, I guess.
