Camping

Does anyone else have that feeling yet? : )

Yesterday I decided it would be nice to go camping right now, in February, in the wind and rain just because it feels so fresh and the sun is out.

Not doing it though. Grin

When is the earliest you have been camping? In terms of early spring. I am sure some of you nutcases go in the winter actually Smile

That sounds great! I'd love to go winter camping. Waking up all snug to crisp snow sounds wonderful. I won't though. Hopefully we will go maybe july. The kids haven't been yet and I don't want their first experience to put them off for life! I'm thinking hollands wood in the new forest.

But to actually answer your question I think this month I'd like to buy new gear and test it in the back garden! Sorry just realised I got a bit carried away there.

DH was saying how nice it would have been to be camping last night!

I looked like this Hmm - I am strictly a fair weather camper!

Hollands Wood is my favourite Strop - we've started a little tradition of going there the last week of the summer holidays in early Sept - to eke the last fun out of the summer!

We went at Easter a couple of years ago, which I think was early April. Never again. I ended up wearing every item of clothing I had with me, with my coat on top, and was still too cold to sleep, and I'm not a particularly cold person.

I can't wait to play with my tent again, but the May half term will be our earliest trip. I wish there were more school holidays in the warmer months so we could do more camping.

Hooray someone else who loves Hollands Wood! :)

Yes I've had the feeling but the image in my head is not the reality!
We will be having our first trip to a local festival around early June.
That said we may just come home because it was feckkng freezing last year!!
We have 4 weeks in the summer in France, hoping for a good summer so we don't have to go too far south.

We went with friends to Blackberry Wood for New Year's Eve before we had children once. We were not the only ones there either. The only problem really was how early it got dark but we have had colder nights in the summer. Maybe it was because we were more prepared for the cold? We had a fire, of course, but then we usually do even in summer.

Since DD arrived, Easter has been our earliest camp and I think it will be this year too. Can't wait!!!

Hell no. its vile w out there. If it was nice and cold maybe but I'd worry we'd end up swimming.

I would LOVE to camp now or in half term hols. I'm itching to get out into a field. DH won't even consider it before May day weekend which I suppose isn't too bad.

And the beauty of camping early in the year is that it goes dark early so the kids go to bed at a reasonable time Grin

I like sleeping in our attic (when OH snores) because if you leave the skylight window open it's like camping - you can hear the rain and feel the fresh air. I did it last night and loved the cold.

I've also been looking into getting a tiny lightweight tent and getting fit enough to ride my bike properly so I can perhaps put the tent on the bike one weekend then get on a train to Scotland or Wales and have a mini adventure.

The fact that our tent weighs about as much as me and is in the attic puts me off using it to be honest. We need a caravan :)

I very much have the urge to go camping at the moment but I know I'm being ridiculous and it wouldn't actually be fun.

The earliest we've ever been is Easter I think and it was cold.

We took the camper away last Easter - the day times were glorious, warm enough to sit outside in beautiful sunshine but by heck it was cold at night. Honest to God there was ice on the windows on the inside.

This year we have booked Easter again but this time with ehu

We went at Easter one year, it was lovely in the day but fecking freezing at night. Luckily it was pre-DC so we could spend the whole evening in the local pub! I wouldn't go that early with kids, our season starts at Whitsun.

I can't wait to go! Been thinking about it since new year, but earliest we have been is spring bank. Would go in feb half term if it was up to me, but the rest of the family say no...probably wise, but I just can't wait to get my tent out...!

Funnily enough I was talking to ds1 about this last night and asking him if he'd be up for camping in the cold. The earliest I've been was easter at the end of March before kids and it was the rain rather than cold that meant we came home early. I'd be up for winter camping if I was convinced the boys would manage. Dh wouldn't come but them I often take them without him anyway as I love it and he doesn't...

I asked the kids if they wanted to go campimg in January. To be fair, it was more glampimg, in a yurt with a stove. But they still said no.

We have a caravan holiday booked for April, but might get some campimg weekends in locally in may/June if the weather is good. Most of my planning is for July and August, and then if not too wet another weekend or two in sept/oct locally.

I'm actually upset at the moment. This Feb half term is the first one in 4 years I'm not going camping :(

Have woken up to snow in the past, but nice and cozy inside .
If you've got stuff that you know will keep you warm & have friends who as mad as you are ; it can be a year round thing...
